I love Ready Player One! I first read it about 2 years ago and was surprised I hadn't heard of it sooner, considering how much I enjoy video games.
You're right, though, that it was kind of a pain to read. I was so excited about the idea though that I found it easy to overlook. To be honest, I'm not expecting much from the movie -- it's one of those things I think we're better off imagining than seeing on screen. But who knows. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
Did you know the book itself had an easter egg hidden within it? I don't remember the exact details, but I think it led to a special URL that the author had set up. Not surprising, considering that the whole book was centered around easter eggs!
