Read between the lines #1 - June 2017

Hey Steemians,

like mentioned in my introduction post, I try to make daily reading a habit. Even though our days sometimes become extremely busy and it is getting hectic sometimes, we mostly can find at least a few minutes for something like reading.
In this series, I want to summarize some of the stuff I read this month and what I think about it.

June 2017

1. Tools of Titans by Tim Ferrriss

The first book actually took me some time and I started in February already . I did not read it in one piece and it is also not advisable to do so. The book is a bomb in some aspects and a bummer on some others. It offers so many gems that it is worth it to digest it in bits. Ferriss is summarizing his meetings with "world class performers" and gives the essence of their success. The book is devided in 3 parts: Health, Wealth, and Wisdom. The Health and Wisdom parts were the strongest in my opinion.
However, it is a very male perspective on things. Only few women are interviewed. Also, it often only taps into how to optimize your life. I can see how people are becoming unhappy because they are trying to optimize their lives based on some people's experience. You need to put everything you read in perspective and not trying to take it for granted.
If you do not do that you will enjoy it!

I especially liked the fact that he frequently asks his guests about the books and movies they would recommend people to read. So you get a lot of new suggestions.

2. As A Man Thinketh by James Allen

"As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."

Everything we think influences who we are. The elemetary idea of this old book is that when you constantly check the quality of your thoughts, this will reflect in your direct life. It is not the circumstances influencing your life and body, it is the way you think. Good or Negative.
In general, this book is a very useful reminder on how powerful our thoughts can be. It's very short and definitively a quick and valuable read.

3. The Business Blockchain by William Mougayar

This book offers a business perspective on the technology we all seem to be enthusiastic about. The book is a nice starter to understand what the Blockchain actually could offer. However, I don't need to go too deep into it here. I believe, I got a basic understanding of the technology and tried to get a deeper understanding of it. However, this book is to perfunctory for that. It is perfect for beginners!
Mougayer is a little bit too enthusiastic for my taste. Even though he addresses the challenges, his tone is rather on the side of "This will change everything, if we start to build businesses on it". It could be a bit more critical in my opinion. It is definitively a great piece of work introducing Blockchain to a broader audience.

If you are interested in all this stuff. I would be over the moon, if you subscribe to my blog here on Steemit and leave a comment below. I am excited to meet you all and exchange ideas with you guys.
