This post will serve as a template for our LightReads GameMaster Challenge. I will provide an actual submission and add some comments to help as well. This entry will be used for our first reading challenge. Stay tuned for the contest post. :)
I. Reading Material
For this challenge I want us to take a read "Little Engine that Could", written by Watty Piper. The story exists in the form of serveral illustrated children's books and even movies. It is an American fairytale that is used to teach children the value of optimism and hardwork.
You can read the story here: Little Engine that Could by Watty Piper
Duration: ~2 minutes
Source: Scholastic
NOTES: What are needed here: (1)a brief introduction about the story, (2)a link or pdf copy (should be ready to read), (3) duration of the read, and (4) n image that will serve as contest banner, any image will do as long as you properly credit the source.
II. Why Recommend This Material?
This is a very simple story but it has quite a nice philosophical ring to it. Specifically, I wanted to know how adults process children stories. Do adults read children's book as is? Or do we spend time to process the lessons and the story?
For this challenge, I want people to look at children's stories beyond putting your childrens to bed. But see it as another learning opportunity. A time to be immersed into the story, a time to chill and relax, and a time to reflect.
III. Though Provoking Questions
I actually have a lot. But I found a good resource that deeply talks about the lessons we can derive from the story. These are actually a group of questions, you don't have to answer each one of them, you can just pick one or two. But it would be great to know your thoughts about these questions.

Have you ever tried to do something difficult?
Does believing in yourself make it easier? Does it make you braver?
TPQ#3 Relativism
What makes morals different from opinions? Is there such a thing as subjective morality?
Did the little engine do the right thing?
Did the other trains do the wrong thing?
Each train thought they were doing the right thing. Does this change anything?
Did the way that they thought about themselves change how they made their decision?
How do we know what the right thing to do is?
