NYC Rain Focused Overnight Tomorrow Night Early Monday Morning

Good morning everyone. After a sunny, dry, windy, and cold day today, we begin to focus on our coastal storm that'll bring rain, wind, and raw conditions into the area overnight tomorrow.

Skies are clear this morning and will remain so throughout the day. Expect a blustery day with wind gusts to near 30mph, highs in the 35-40 degree range, and windchills in the 20-30 range; helping it feel like mid January throughout the area.

The winds subside a bit from the gusty parameters, but we hold onto a stiff NE wind overnight with our gathering system well southwest. Lows will get down into the upper 20's to near 30, and we'll have widespread 20's away from the NYC area.

Clouds will be on the increase tomorrow, and it'll be raw with a stiff onshore flow. Rain will hold off until between 11pm and 2am, then a cold rain will fall throughout the night and into Monday.

I think the steadiest rain falls just before sunrise Monday and into the morning rush, then we get into a more scattered-type rain until everything pulls away. Coastal flooding and beach erosion will be an issue, and coastal sections could see 40-50mph gusts, especially the further east you go along the coast of Long Island.

On another note and this is just for posterity, with no actual impact or difference in outcome, it wouldn't surprise me if the center of our Nor'Easter turns into a subtropical storm briefly. I've seen this happen before, usually with slower moving system, but possible here nonetheless.

When we see the main precipitation field push away from the center, and a void is left with scattered convective areas, that center of low pressure sits over the Gulf Stream with dead air around it. If there's any center of convection, we could see it hold onto a closed off area of 50-70mph winds.

Regardless of what happens, this stays well offshore and has no impact on our weather. It would also be so compact, (30-50 miles wide) it could easily be avoided by shipping interests.
