What is a Palm Router?

Palm routers, also known as trim routers, usually range in horsepower from 1 to 1.5HP. Palm routers are preferred over larger sized routers for many jobs. They are perfect for trimming jobs, window cutouts, fine joinery, small dadoes, and more.

Palm routers are one of the most portable types of routers. They are compact and powerful for many small edging and trimming tasks. However, most palm routers will take only 1/4 inch router bits. This limits the versatility of the tool, but makes it the perfect choice for most small tasks.

Many trim routers have a one hand compact design which makes them easy to use and easy to control. Perfect for beginners. Many times I'll prefer to use the palm router over the mid-sized router.

Palm routers are a great choice for beginners who need edging, hinge routing and simple pattern work at budget price range.
