I am a teacher by education and I will be a teacher by profession soon, when I am done with my degree program in chemistry education and get certified by the Teachers Training Council of Nigeria(TRCN). What many fail to grasp is that anyone passing through the four walls of the university is a teacher by education(an educator), what I am insinuating is that you can always have something that others will learn from you, it could be morals and by teaching, something you obtain academically.
What material do you want to teach to students or to your child?
I am bringing to your exposition the concept BUILDING on the subject BASIC SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, the class age is very important because this will channel my teaching strategies and help me simplify the topic for my pupil's understanding.
Explain how you would design the opening activities, core activities and closing activities in a learning material?
I would have my plan arranged in this format, If I were to begin teaching instantly I would have gone with an introduction which is almost in pari passu with the entry behaviour but since I am writing my lesson plan I would go with specific objectives first.
Specific objectives; During or after the lesson, pupils should be able to
- Define building
- Identify five examples of building materials and their uses
- List four materials used for building
- State three types of buildings
- Mention three professionals involved in building
Previous knowledge;
Step 1; Each step is aimed at achieving the specific objectives, a note is written here on the definition of building, examples etc.
Evaluation; The teacher evaluates the lesson by asking questions like
- What is building?
- Name four buildings and mention what they are used for.
- List three materials used for building
- State three types of building
Summary; It summarises everything from the lesson, a recap of major objectives could be done here.
What method will you use, explain why it is the most appropriate?
I would make my teaching more of an Interactive session, reasons; I pick from an experience I had a few weeks ago in my place of primary assignment (i.e teaching as a student teacher), the pupils are normally distracted by little things like their pen-dropping on the floor, a voice of another pupil in the next class, so in other to make them concentrate, I throw a question to the class in the course of teaching that will serve as a form of evaluation(questionnaire), this question is not done randomly but pupils specific, especially to the ones that seem to be distracted or absent-minded. A display of the quality of a good teacher could be seen here, a good observer.
What tools and media do you need so that learners can understand it well?
I will be a teacher by profession a few years from now and I have learnt so much and need to learn even more, Sorry for diversifying, I would be using a RELIAL as my teaching aid, a real-life display is catchy to the pupils, something like a HAND TROWEL and a HAMMER, which is an example of building tools, I have learnt that out of sight is out of mind, what is seen often reside in the retina and could be recollected easily.

Y resuena mucho en mi corazón! siempre he querido enseñar a otros pero creo que el gran obstáculo que me ponía era que no soy profesora de profesión si no licenciada en Bioanalisis, aún así tu texto me confirma que a pesar de no ser experta en la educación, estoy capacitada para enseñar a otros lo que por años me costó aprender!
