The Menu... is it worth watching?

I watched the movie The Menu in the cinema a few days ago. The chips was good, my wife is beautiful, meaning that the surroundings were ideal. What about the movie itself?

I know millions of people have been waiting for the premiere of the brand new Avatar movie. Well, I am not among them. I was bored during the first movie, and I have no intention at all of watching the second movie. As a result, I had to find something else to watch in the cinema and thus I decided to watch The Menu with Ralph Fiennes instead. He is awesome in this role (as he normally is whenever he plays something). But, what is the movie about?

The Menu is a movie hard to grasb. It could have been a movie about excellence and luxury in the world of gastronomy and how it is all about art. But, while it really deals with that as a topic, it seems as if it is making fun of it at the same time. A group of celebrities and rich people meet up at an island to taste the food made by the super chef played by Ralph Fiennes. It all seems perfect at once, but as time flies and the evening goes, it gets strange. The jam that is delicious is served without bread. When some guests complain, nothing happens. But, when a girl that wasn't supposed to be there says that she doesn't want to eat, the chef gets amazed, annoyed, and confused.

This leads to a chemistry between the chef and this girl throughout the movie that culminates in the end.

The Menu is a movie with a lot of meanings. What do I mean? Most people will have different meanings concerning the message of the movie. Is it making fun of all those snobs eating in high class restaurants, who spend more than $1000 per person for a meal? Is it making fun of fine dining itself? Or is it showing that there really is fantastic opportunities in special food, but we have missed it, and just look for easy things to eat instead of enjoying the beauties of life, that can be found in food, for example.

No matter what, I believe you will enjoy watching The Menu in the cinema. And I also wonder what you will think after you have watched it.

If you are in Budapest and want to find a cinema where you can watch The Menu (or Avatar), take a look at this list.

Have you seen The Menu? Did you like it? How would you sum up the message of the movie?
