Well, the Mrs and I had a budget meeting before work last night. Without going into details, it's not an ideal situation. But it's definitely not anything catastrophic. I'll get with her and ask if she has any objection with sharing the details here so I can disclose our specific plan.
Bottom like, we've got around $3500 in debt (other than the car and house) and it's negatively affecting our quality of life.
I'm mainly to blame honestly. I've been encouraging us so heavily down this road of "progress" that we've taken funds that could have gone to a debt snowball and put them towards new lights or new paint.
Those can easily be viewed as investments, sure. They improve the value of our home. But we are slaves to debt, and it's past time for that to change.
Without giving any specific embarrassing numbers, I can tell you that Melissa and I are of one mind here, and we are going to use what's been described to us as a "debt snowball." The idea is that you pay off a debt then reallocate that payment to another debt. It sounds common sense, but it's not something we've been very good about without some extreme discipline and determination.
When we are of one mind, this woman and I are an amazing team.
All that is to say that our progress on some of the projects is going on hold. We are focusing on freeing ourselves of debt first. Yes, we are putting back a small amount of money for projects from each check. But there will probably not be any more three-project weekends for a while. Our big aggressive plan will probably take til spring.
From then on, the project money will be MASSIVE. And until then, I'm going to have to focus on ways to do jobs on an extremely tight budget. This will be a fun challenge for me.
Between @brockolopolis and @ogbrog, that challenge is protein production.
I want to be producing a meat crop by the end of the year. On this budget, that's a helluva goal. In case you didn't hear me the first time,
I'll fill yall in on the plan later. Probably shortly after I make it.
But first, a nap.
Stay relevant
Nate

Ug, I feel ya. We've been remodeling our house...it used to be a dr.s office...for 20 years. We've gotta get everything done on the cheap, or the free. 😏 It helps that my husband is in construction and we can pick up free left-overs here and there.

That's what I need to find. Construction sites. An unending supply of 2x4s and romex would be perfect lol
