Steem memo changed into random characters that doesn't make any sense

A few days ago, theguruasia sent me a message with a 0.001 transaction. The message is now nothing but completely nonsense characters. What could have led to this? Can memos be changed after they are posted? Or, could it be that, some kind of fault in the blockchain caused this?

That is an encrypted private message. You should be able to read it inside your wallet if steemit.com has your private memo key. Here some more technical information about it :

Perhaps encrypted memos ought to have a header like "---Begin PGP signed message---" before the encrypted text like the way encrypted emails do it?
