Don’t ask me how I stumbled onto this report. I just did. It reveals the way post-Communism has worked out for my native country. Hint: not very well at all! In fact it has been one miserable, seemingly unending disappointment and tragedy all at once.

Consider this as you read this piece: by 2005 the country was actually doing “better” as compared to the way things were in the 90’s.

When you read about contract killing, mafia bosses shot with snipers and so on, consider this was the improved Bulgaria of the 2,000’s.

Yup.

As I think about it now, I had friends visiting from the US right around that time. If you ask them, I doubt they will have any bad memories such as running into a gangster shoot out. But crap like this was going on all the time. I guess the locals just get used it. Scary huh?
