Most people don't listen with the intent to understand. They listen with the intent to reply.

People are impatiently waiting for the first opening to talk about their business, product or service. When it comes, they vomit information all over the potential prospect and completely turn them off.

Be patient. Instead of waiting for the opening to go for the kill, look for the opportunity to offer a helping hand.
