Some people think that it would be better for large companies and industry to move to regional areas outside large urban centers. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Shifting of big industries and corporations from city area to regional sites would me more beneficial, is the thought of some people. This essay will argue that the advantages of this outweigh the drawbacks. The essay will first demonstrate that moving away from urban places would decrease air and water pollution in city area and increase residential land in highly populated urban centers, followed by an analysis of how the primary disadvantage, namely difficulty in travelling a long distance on a daily basis, is not valid.
The main reason to relocate is that it would significantly reduce the amount of pollutants in the city’s atmosphere and water. That is to say that the industries would have a separate and proper place far from the population to dump their waste. For instance, a recent survey by SDA reported that air pollution in Sialkot has dropped by 5 percent during the past one year, after relocating various leather factories to peripheries of the city.
Shifting to rural sectors would also give more residential place for people to live. In other words, it would free up land to build up more residential societies and apartments which would consequently reduce the congestion in urban areas. For example, three new housing societies and two apartments were built in Lahore in 2009, after forcing multinational companies such as PVC plus out of the town by LDA.
Those opposed to this say that, for employees, it would be difficult to travel to remote industrial sites every day. However, this would not be a big issue because companies could arrange transportation for their workers and could also raise their salary to compensate for the hurdles. For instance, my brother used to travel for an hour daily to a clinic in periphery and he never complained because of the free conveyance plus a handsome pay package they were giving him.
On balance, the fact that moving of large industries and companies to regional areas would lead to reduced pollution and increased living space clearly outweighs the flawed argument that it would bring about adversities in transportation of workers.
