If you’ve joined a direct marketing or network marketing business, you’re probably tired of prospecting your friends, family, and local people – and likely despite your best efforts, you’ve been accused of joining a ‘pyramid scheme’ or worse, a pyramid scam.
This is all pretty common at the beginning of anyone’s network marketing career and a painful first step into what is ultimately going to be a massively liberating journey towards financial independence. The important thing to remember is that 97% of people fail here, so if you can keep struggling, you’re actively fighting failure and moving onto the next level.
So, you’ve tried everyone you know and their grandma and been chased away with a broom – what now? The obvious answer is to keep local people out of your opportunity and instead look online, a source of far more riches and leas that you might think.
So, why online? Well, the benefits are basically stratospheric when compared to your regular joe offline attempts at marketing:
• It’s never been easier to find and generate freshly-baked leads around the clock, 24/7
• It’s never been easier to avoid the painful sting of rejection simply by only talking to interested people
• It’s never been easier to avoid the thousands of miles driven to meet leads for nothing
• It’s never been easier to keep startup costs low, have your storefront open 24/7 AND avoid the phone
If that list of benefits doesn’t sway you even a little bit, then I don’t know what will. And no, you don’t need to be some kind of computer whizz kid to make this work. You do need the desire to put some effort in, however – but if you’re serious about your future financial independence, this is par for the course.
So, what three steps do you need to follow?
First of all, you need to develop your mindset. Everyone has a slightly different mindset, so it’s important to take into consideration your own personal foibles and strengths, and base your own personal development goals on that.
With this said, I’m going to teach you something that applies to everyone: you have to be ready to struggle. This is a journey into a whole new part of your life. It’s a trip to the unknown. Thar be dragons, and also incredible riches. But you need to be comfortable with the fact that you’re out there and alone.
Not quite alone – but you need to be present and keep your wits while you go through this journey. You don’t know everything that you need to know yet, and that’s fine. You’re going to learn those skills along the way. It’s like anything: when you start doing something, you’re usually pretty lame at it. Then, with a lot of practice, you slowly get better.
One day, after a long time, you wake up and realize that you’ve somehow mastered it. It’s like learning a musical instrument, completing a college course, or mastering a new language. These things are all great accomplishments that we rightfully applaud others for achieving, and building a successful business is no different.
So, treat it just like that. There will be failures and there will be setbacks, and that’s fine: just keep your eyes ahead on the goal, and make it your mission to get back up every time you fall. You’ve got this, and you can do this – all the skills are right there with you, just waiting to be woken up.
Second, you’re going to need a blueprint. Now, you might be more comfortable thinking of this as a map – something that gives you a good idea of where you are and where you’re going next. This helps you to ground yourself in the moment – and also to guide you on growing your business.
For example, take recruiting. Downlines are incredibly important in network marketing, so you’re gonna want to start this as early as possible. Get a blueprint settled for active social media recruiting (e.g. on FB, Twitter, Insta) and get posting, engaging, and interacting with people: it’s the fastest way to get results.
But that’s not all: you can also set up passive strategies by leveraging ads with landing pages to keep a steady stream of leads coming in to look. Essentially, you want to be focusing on one thing: always be growing – and a blueprint is key to making this happen.
The third thing you need is a mentor. Mentors are absolutely invaluable in this world, as they have so much knowledge and experience to impart to their mentees. You’re new, and there’s a lot of things you don’t know waiting to trip you up – and a mentor can see them red flagged and signalled from miles away.
More than just helping you to skip multiple pitfalls and share wisdom that might otherwise take you years to acquire alone, mentors are also invaluable when it comes to guidance. That great idea you have might be a total no-no: and a mentor can help you to shape it into a yes-yes. In other words, you’ll have a huge ally in your struggle to build a business, keeping insecurity at bay.
This isn’t an easy journey, but it’s worthwhile: and it all starts with just three steps. All you need is the commitment to say “I do” to the first one. Do you?
