Did you know that 75% of internet users judge websites based on their look and design? This is the real deal: the judging of a book by its cover, no second chances first impressions kind of impression. If your website looks like someone last tinkered with it back in 1995 – well, I think you already know the answer to this question.
That said, most websites don’t look this old, which can make knowing a little trickier. Over time, companies and businesses grow and change, and one thing to think about is whether your website reflects that and where you are right now.
Remember, people visiting your site are also doing so to get a feel for your overall identity as a brand – so it really ought to reflect who you are now, rather than what you were some years back.
Another thing to remember is that people are definitely getting pickier. Even just a few years ago, you could get away with quite a lot of stuff that now gets people turning their noses up at you. Consider your user experience – are you giving people a seamless experience where they can easily get from A through to C? Does everything make sense, and can people easily get to where they want to be?
Finally – and this is a big one – is your site responsive and mobile friendly? If you answer no, then drop everything and get a redesign now. Mobile devices are taking over the world slowly but surely, and that means your site needs to look good over a huge range of devices with non-standardized screens.
In short, look at your website and ask yourself whether it’s as good as it could be: if the answer isn’t an immediate yes, then it’s time to roll up your sleeves!
