Why It’s Time To Put Down Your Smartphone… (But Not Forever!)

You’re probably reading this on your smartphone, aren’t you? Don’t worry, I won’t hold it against you. The simple fact is that almost all of us have a smartphone. Look up from yours and around you, and you’ll probably see a sea of hair as people look at their smartphones to update their social media, check their email, or while away some time on a game.

Most of us are spending around three hours a day on our smartphone, and that’s not including talking on them. Now, that’s all fine and well, and I’m sure you’ve read all the scary health reports coming out about it…

…but let’s be honest, that’s a lot of time (over 100 hours!) a month that you could be using to do something more productive. Instead of reading yet another social media post about a party, you could be reading a literary classic, or learning a new skill, or taking a course to grow your business.

Now, that’s not to say that you absolutely can’t use your phone, but to remind you that there is a world that’s a lot bigger than the small screen. While the smartphone is an incredibly useful tool that most of us would be completely lost without, there’s no denying that it’s got its hooks into us just a little bit too much.

So, do yourself a favor and start analyzing your smartphone habits, especially if you feel like you never have any time. There’s a whole world of things to do and learn beyond the small screen, and stepping back from it could end up doing you – and your life – a whole lot of good.

I need to follow that advice. I've actually been blogging from my phone. I spend way too much time online.
