If you’re stuck in a cubicle with a commute to match, then the lifestyle of a digital nomad – an online worker who travels the world as they work in between drinking in the exotic sights, smells, tastes, and sounds that far-off destinations have to offer – then it can seem like a fanciful dream that you’ll never achieve.

However, that’s not true. What you do need to do is a little bit of planning to ensure that you can make this happen. Much of this planning is financial, figuring out the barebones budget you need in order to survive. Ideally, if you’re serious about achieving this dream it means losing a lot of the comforts that you might be used to (Netflix, car payments, and non-essential expenses need to go).

But that’s not all – you also need to prepare your remote work income. This can be a tricky stumbling block if you have no online income, but don’t worry! You can also develop other strategies such as renting out your home, discussing a remote working strategy with your boss, and building passive income streams.

These are the two pillars that mean you can go to enjoy a digital nomad lifestyle, but as everyone has such a different, unique personal situation, it’s worth investigating forums and communities built around this lifestyle for advice, support, and more to start really planning the next stage of your life.

Being a digital nomad is a new career choice in many ways, and a lifechanging one at that. As with any other major life change, you can’t just jump in: you also need to be prepared to make sacrifices and face challenges. If you’re up for it though, you will find a whole new world opening up to you – and that makes this completely worth it!
