"Compliance Required!
Despite enrolling in the next quarterly launch, Myrtle becomes frustrated when she learns that it won't happen for several more months when Herb gets distracted by Myrtle when Joey attempts to sell shares over the phone, surpassing his sales performance in "Hello Tomorrow!". Joey's performance was unexpected and Herb's distraction from the quarterly launch caused delays, resulting in Myrtle's frustration. After Myrtle confides in Herb that she doesn't have anything else to turn to, he comes up with an unconventional solution.
A rocket lifts off for the moon, and Jack tries to convince Joey to join Brightside. Joey, however, refuses to be convinced by an expensive car, and is determined to stay with his mother. Jack continues to try and persuade Joey, offering him a chance to explore the unknown and to experience something new and exciting. Jack tries to persuade him once again, but Joey confesses he wants to go, and he doesn't want to be a nobody. Even though he cannot leave his mother as his father did, he does not even know his father's name.
Herb confesses to Shirl that he feels the need to be the best salesman because he doesn't want Betty to think something is wrong with him. Herb's video call with Betty ends when Myrtle rushes into his room, and Betty hangs up as Myrtle yells at him for misleading her. Herb's behavior is similar to a child trying to hide a bad grade from their parents, knowing that the truth may disappoint and create a confrontation. She was desperate to leave for the moon and had been trying to find help for the whole day.
While Shirley pitches innovative ideas for Brightside, Jack dissuades her from innovating and alludes to "Stan Jenkin's" disapproval. When Fred reminds Eddie of the money he owes, Lester, an investigator with a cleft palate, visits Shirley. In order to make certain claims about what they're selling in Vistaville, Brightside must fill out certain forms, he tells her. Shirley must have the forms filled out before she can present her innovative ideas to Stan Jenkins, the head of the company, in order to be taken seriously. Lester's presence implies that Brightside may be engaging in shady business practices and that he is there to ensure everything is in order before they make any further claims. By making sure that all of the necessary forms are filled out, Brightside is ensuring that any claims they make about their products are backed up by data and that they are not making any false or exaggerated claims. This is important because if any of their claims are found to be false or misleading, they could be subject to legal action. Lester's presence is likely intended to make sure that all of the proper paperwork has been filled out and that Brightside is not engaging in any illegal or unethical practices. Her suspicions are piqued, and she begins to wonder whether everything is really as it appears.
Shirl notices an injury to Eddie's leg when he gives her a jewel to distract her from his "other issues." She gives him some money, likely from the company, and tells him to settle his debt soon and pay her back. Lester gives Myrtle a form when he overhears her complaints at the bar, and assures her that she has rights as a customer. It is his responsibility to defend her.
The episode is filled with Jack's nervousness despite his assurances to Shirley that everything will be fine. Although he is aware that they are in a tight spot and under a lot of pressure, he remains hopeful and maintains a brave face. As time passes, he becomes increasingly nervous as the weight of the situation begins to take its toll.
Though it's a difficult conversation for Jack, he finally admits his error to Joey's mother. Though he acknowledges the incredible job she's done raising Joey, he finally admits the mistakes he's made.
In the end, Joey makes the decision to join Brightside, and Jack seems relieved. The pressure is lifted, and they can move forward with their plans. However, there is still a sense of unease as they realize they need to act quickly to comply with the regulations. They know they cannot make any more mistakes because the stakes are high.
