Hot & Spicy - Now A Hot Pepper Variety Officially Bears My Name 🌶️ [Update From Daddy's Girl]steemCreated with Sketch.

The fame stuff, the kind words from websites and things, are very flattering and lovely, but I just wanna act. - Matthew Lewis

True story.

I only wanna become a good farmer.

But now I've got that handprint on the hot pepper's walk of fame!

@surfermarly (Marlene) with 'Rocoto Marlene'

Daddy's ultimate accolade

The ones who only know me from surfing might have missed a little detail about my life.

I'm actually a farmer, a hot pepper grower to be precise.

My professional future supposedly won't be made of saltwater but a lot of Capsaicin.

Since more than 15 years my dad is one of the big players in the hot pepper business. He's offering the largest amount of different seed varieties in the world.

Currently there are about 800 different types of hot peppers available in our shop.

One of the varieties he created through crossing is bearing my name now.

What an honor, daddy!

Spicy little beasts: 'Rocoto Marlene' (Capsicum pubescens)

Rocotos are per se my favourite hot peppers.

I love their fruity flavor and the fact that a lot of them (depending on the size of the pods) are perfectly suited for stuffing.

This variety is even an excellent cropper, so the plants we're having in our green houses are full of pods!

It's a powerful one, thus Rocoto Marlene is living up to its name - haha!

You wanna shop and cultivate me? Here we go!

'Rocoto Marlene SLP' for sale at www.semillas.de

They say that 'everything in life is for sale'. That's demonstrated now, haha!

So far 'Rocoto Marlene' is one of our top sellers. I'm pretty convinced that this has nothing to do with me but is simply due to my dad's talent in creating extraordinary varieties (he's a chemist by the way).

I hope one day I'll be able to follow in his footsteps. Until then I will learn as much as I can from him.

Have a happy and spicy day, steemians!

Marly -

PS: I will bring some hot pepper seeds to Steemfest2 for the ones who are interested in having some.

LOL - best comment ever!!! :-)

Mar ly , I love your content. You got yourself a new follower, see you at steemfest 2 ;)

Thank you :-) See you there!

Wow! That's a great thing to do in life! I am sure that in future hydroponic agriculture will be one of the most important and valued jobs! I really want to study more about growing food:) Most part of the food here is spicy, and Thai people use a lot of chili peppers but I never heard about Rocoto pepper! May be I should start cultivating it here in Phuket! I believe, that all plants are alive and they won't be any good, if you grow without love:) I am sure your dad is very proud of such a daughter! Have an amazing weekend, Marly:) Cheers!

Thanks for your lovely words, Luke!
I'm pretty convinced that the climate at your place is ideal for growing any kind of vegetables.
We've got some clients from Thailand and they are very happy witht heir results. I should send you some seeds and instruction though :-) Or much better: bring them personally and discover a new travel destination! Ha!
Happiest weekend for you, too!

congratulations on the new pepper naming - you are immortalized!
I didn't know about your farming and with your father - this is a beautiful thing. I work with my architect father often making architectural tile for his buildings or designing art together and working with him has been one of the richest gifts of my life.

congratulations on the new pepper naming - you are immortalized!

Haha, yeah it seems that...
I'm very happy for you and can totally relate. Father-kid-relationships are exceptional!
Spending time with my dad is my daily happiness boost, besides all the work and learning we're just like best friends.
Have a great day, @natureofbeing! And thanks for sharing your own story :-)

Amazing. 800 different hot peppers :-)
Full 100% and resteemed.

Hehe, thank you so much!!!
Do you wanna try some? ;-)

Looks like I need to go shopping!

Haha! If you plan on doing so, let me know. Obviously you wouldn't have to pay for them :)

Nice - Was in a Mexican restaurant today which must have featured over 100 different Tabasco style bottles of pepper sauce - they called it the 'Wall of flame' Do you guys make anything similar? Just curious :)

Hahaha The Wall of Flame - that's just brilliant! :-)
We only sell seeds.

Yeah - it's a real eye catcher, and a mouth burner - I'll get a snap of it next time I'm there :)

Haha, I can imagine! Yeah do that :-)

WOW I never knew there were so many types of Peppers, and how cool to have one named after you :)

Yes, it definitely is.
There are many more! :-) We just have the most popular ones.

WOw maybe because I dont have peppers thats why I know so little about them

I didn't know that either... When my dad started to conquer this business I began to learn.

THats a good reason to learn :)

I could not have even imagined that there are so many varieties :) If you asked me, i could probably tell two. Chili pepper and paprika, latter probably not even being a hot pepper :)

Haha, paprika isn't really a "hot" pepper but rather a "sweet" pepper :-D
To be honest, I hadn't any idea either when my dad started to conquer this market. I grew up with: tomatoes and paprika. The hot pepper world is really a world on its own, including the people who cultivate them. Very often they are a bit freaky, haha (e.g. doing competitions eating the hottest ones and being ill afterwards). I'm just a silent observer :-D

Ok, i see :) I told you my knowledge is very limited lol I once had a wager to eat some green hot pepper for 10 bucks in Indonesia :) The locals were freaked out and laughing but it was not too hot to be honest :)

Well there are some that are able to kill you (if your heart pressure is not perfectly balanced out)...

Now you have scared me... It was either not the one you are talking about, or i have a perfect heart pressure. Because i really did not get the point of a wager, they looked really surprised :)

Very cool! Or should I say hot??

Great story and wonderful to see you honor your dad in such a way.

And another interesting tid bit about you also. :)

Thank you!
He really deserves it to be honored like that. He's not only the best hot pepper expert in the world but also the very best dad :-)

That is really, but really, cool! :)

Haha, thanks!
Do you come to Steemfest? Then I can bring you some seeds to try :)

I am not too sure. Steemfest period matches the school vacation week in France. And family always comes first!

800 varieties wow and one of them has your name. Great. How hot? I can only eat up to the heat of a jalapeno, but not hotter than that.

It's not that hot and definitely smoother than any Jalapeño variety. So you could easily try it! :-)

Very hot...

Ha, totally! :-))

nice business ;)

great work....like it

Wow that is crazy.
I'm so bad with spice that I don't think I could handle anything that hot.
However I really like the look of them with its clean shiny outer coating.

Haha, I also prefer to look at them! :-)
However, I enjoy a nicely balanced heat...

nice posts. love peppers!

Wow i got some new knowledge thanks
n u look really awesome

Nice post 👍

pls follow back

nice post my friend @surfermarly

great post sister . you luck

yummy peppers!

Does Rocoto Marlene contain a lot of Capsaisurfer?

I've always wondered. Does your father measure the scoville units of his peppers? If so, how do they do that?

My dad has one of these very expensive machines that are able to precisely measure the heat.

I've always pictured some "Expert" going around, eating a pepper, then quantifying the Scoville units. I wonder how that machine works?

Haha, just eating them wouldn't be precise enough.
This is the system my father bought a couple of months back, a HPLC system (high-pressure liquid chromatography):

You need to make a powder of the hot peppers and then dissolve it in a special liquid to be proceeded by the system.

It's a very expensive "toy"... You can buy such a system or a small car instead, haha!

WOW! That's some serious looking equipment.
