YOUR PERSONALITY AND TEAM SUCCESS

Business are basically challenged with human resources as humans are the most important of all resources used to achieve business success and productivity. I have been through thought narratives that subscribes to everyone becoming an entrepreneur but then i have also subscribed to narratives that not everyone should be an entrepreneur. In many cases, we get confused as to what we really want to do with our lives especially after university education. some people want to get a job, have a stable source of income ,experience job security and a whole lot that happens to you as an employee while others want to start up a business, get it going and maybe in the future get people to work for them. whichever path you choose, there is always a struggle of having the right people on the team or being the right person on the team.

As humans, we communicate in order to build and maintain relationships and when this communication is not properly done,there would be damaging shortcomings and it would negatively affect the productivity of a business. it is pertinent for us to be reminded that as humans, everyone is not like us, we see and understand things differently and as such need to be communicated to differently.

Variations in human personalities has in the past and in recent times attracted attention and study and different models have been developed to help us understand our selves and others and why we act the way we do. The commonest and oldest of them categorizes personalities into four (choleric,Sanguine, Melancholic and Phlegmatic) and we can easily identify ourselves using this model. This post will help us further identify our personality using the COLOR-SEA CREATURE model, this will also help us identify our strengths as to where we fit in a team, who we should bring into the team and how best to relate with them.

• RED sharks
• BLUE Dolphins
• YELLOW Whales
• GREEN Urchins

GREEN Urchins:They are analytical in nature, they tend to be very detailed, take time to do research and gather information and they need to know everything about everything to make a decision. They are quite slow, take a long time and you are not supposed to rush them.
You can easily spot GREEN Urchins as they are super detailed,careful,relatively slow, dry and you will find them alone most times because they are not so outgoing and avoid attracting attention.
one amazing thing about them is that once they get sold,they are sold out.

YELLOW Whales
These guys are the helpers, they want to know people, be there for them, and help them. They do a lot of volunteering, listening to what people say and do not say and they are particular about helping relationships work. They are soft spoken and very attractive with people around them because they care about others and show it.
Business need people like this in customer service, they will function perfectly.

BLUE Dolphins
This category of persons are all about the fun. they don't care about competition or the money, they just want to have fun. They are quite disorganized, turn up almost always late and drive the urchins nuts. smiles. If you want to do business with them or bring them on the team, you'll have to tell them how much fun it is, how much people they would get to meet and interact with but making mention of winning or beings at the top makes you loose them.
People love the dolphins as they are also very creative.

RED SHARKS
They are very competitive, want to be on top and want to win. They want it hard, fast and are not interested in details. RED Sharks are the big picture kind of people,workaholic,self-centered and majorly interested in what is in it for them. i particularly love this kind because they get things done and in most cases fast. Talk to them about being number 1, fastest growing and win win win and you have them.
You can easily spot these guys as they smell nice, drive cars and wear clothes that announces how successful they are and are almost never smiling.

i believe you have been able to find yourself in any of these four and you will also realize that each of them has something that makes the other balanced.
A good team needs the RED shark to paint the big picture and get things done, the GREEN urchin to do the research and analytics and come up with a workable process, the BLUE dolphin would add creativity, fun and energy to the team because you are supposed to enjoy what you are doing and if for whatever reason there is a personality clash, the YELLOW whale is there to make everyone feel better, motivate the team emotionally and make sure the team doesn't crash.

Understanding ourselves and others and how best to communicate to them according to their needs would help make a successful team.
