in busy •  6 years ago

If you want to have an organized workplace, may have heard about 6S. 6S is a part of lean process. This is applicable not only to corporate office or industries but every person. By applying 6S methodology, it’s possible to Improve efficiency, eliminate error and rework, achieve organization or personal improvement and finally reduce cycle time of any work which contribute to achieve personal and organizational goal.

In fact, it was 5S earlier which came from below five Japanese word.

Seiri (Sort)

Seiton (Set In order)

Seiso (Shine)

Seiketsu (Standardize)

Shitsuke (Sustain)

Later, another S added with 5S that is Safety.

These are very frequently used tools of improving workplace environment. The history and origin of 5S you can find from Wikipedia below.

5S was developed in Japan and was identified as one of the techniques that enabled Just in Time manufacturing. Two major frameworks for understanding and applying 5S to business environments have arisen, one proposed by Osada, the other by Hirano. Hirano provided a structure to improve programs with a series of identifiable steps, each building on its predecessor. As noted by John Bicheno, Toyota's adoption of the Hirano approach was '4S', with Seiton and Seiso combined

I am planning to write about these 6S. Today’s part is the introduction. Later, I will try to write about each ‘S’ in separate articles.

Stay informed friends.
