Pakistan is famous for its many incredible religious art and architectural works. However, when most people think of religious art in Pakistan, they often think of moghani mosques and mosaics. Although Pakistan has a rich Muslim heritage, Northern Pakistan was once a paradise for Buddhist monks, scholars, and artists. The northern region of Pakistan is known as the Kinabalu Kingdom as a particularly important area for the development of Greek Buddhist statues.

As the name implies, Greek Buddhism is a fusion of Greek art forms and Buddhist philosophy. This style of art reached its peak between the 1st and 5th centuries.

Although there are no Buddhists working in Pakistan today (96% of Pakistanis have been identified as Muslims), the locals are proud of the beautiful tradition of Greek-style Buddhist art and are striving to preserve it. Believe it or not, many faithful Buddhists from Southeast Asia still pilgrimage to this city to see these incredible statues.

The best place for visitors to admire the art of Jianye’s dynasty is the Taksim Museum in Taksim. UNESCO recognizes the many heritage sites of Taksim (about an hour's drive from Islamabad) as a World Heritage site. Although it is not as prosperous as it used to be, Tuxila is still considered one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. Most of today's towns are made up of well-preserved relics from the era of Jianhuo.

You may be puzzled that Taksisila was originally called “Takshashila,” meaning “mountain castle,” but most historians believe that it was named after the second and third centuries BC.

Taksim is a very important trading point on the ancient Silk Road. Most scholars believe that Buddhist beliefs may be promoted from Tuxila to other parts of Asia such as China, Tibet, Mongolia, and even Japan.

The Taksim Museum was built in 1918 and was pioneered by the Viscount Chelmsford in Chelmsford. It took them a decade to complete this huge museum and open it to the public. In 1998, Pakistani officials decided to expand the museum to display more interesting artifacts. Although the museum is relatively small, it has the most impressive Buddha statue in the world.

Many of the art and artifacts of the Taksim Museum are from the days of the Jiansuoluo Kingdom and date back to the first to seventh centuries. The most famous works in the museum are various stone statues of Buddha. British archaeologist John Marshall discovered these statues when he was excavated in the Taksim Valley in early 1900. All in all, 1,400 pieces of museum collection are from the period of Jianhuo guoguo. Most of them are depicting Buddha statues sitting in meditation.

In addition to Buddhist art, the museum has about 4,000 different collections from Buddhist and Greek temples, most of which were from 600 BC and 500 AD. In addition to Buddhist works, this museum also houses artifacts from Hinduism and Jainism, as well as coins, temple paintings, and silverware.
