Prussian blue was synthesized for the first time in the beginning of the 18th century. It's a complex compound which is dark blue pigment. It is used to make paints also in medicine it's an antidote for certain kinds of heavy metal poisoning (also EDTA).
Vincent van Gogh used Prussian blue for painting.
"Starry Night"
Also Prussian blue was a compound from which hydrogen cyanide was produced.
Well two of my colleagues are doing reasearch with this compound. They are making thin films of Prussian blue and one of them modifies electrodes with it which are used for making biosensors (instruments that can indicate and measure amount of certain kind of compound, for example glucose), and the other one investigates its electrochromical properties (it means that the compound is changing its color depending on the voltage that is given).
For me this compound is really nice, maybe because of its dark blue color. But there is one thing I don't like about it, it's really hard to wash beakers after experiments with it...
I really liked the last sentence very much... Very surprising. Keep them coming... The more, the better.
