Relationships with other people are fundamental for development and personal improvement. Treating others as you would like them to treat you is very important, otherwise you will not be able to cultivate lasting relationships in your environment and you will end up isolating yourself. If you treat people with respect, you will gain their trust and have much stronger bonds, so we give you some suggestions for your interaction with others.
1.- Punctuality: A show of respect in meetings, in your work, on a day-to-day basis, is respecting the time of others. Yes, it is true that it is very nice to fall asleep a few extra minutes or delay in fixing yourself, but that you waste your time to others, it is not a sign of respect. Maybe it can be a few more minutes, but it takes longer than half an hour to do it, it is not recommended. In case you had any urgency, communicate it, with that gesture you will be showing respect for the other person.
Even if it is related to your work, committing to deliver a report or product and not doing it to date, it leaves a terrible image of your work, perhaps there were circumstances beyond your control, but also, communicate it, although in the case of work, however your image will be affected, even more, if you are working as a consultant or product delivery. Organize yourself in a realistic way and inform your superiors about your progress, so that in case of any contingency, be aware of it and be warned about it.
2.- In communications: If they call you, answer the phone, and return calls if you have not been able to answer. If your interlocutor is the one who calls, listen carefully to what he is saying and show interest in what he is saying. If they talk on the phone with you and you, simultaneously, you are doing something else such as seeing your email or reading, you will not pay attention to what it says, being disrespectful. Remember, if you are busy at that moment, tell your interlocutor so you have knowledge that you can not attend to it.
It is worth noting that this applies to people with whom you have a positive link, if they are people with whom you do not want to communicate, for various reasons (especially calls at a more personal level) on many phones there is the option to block unwanted calls It is preferable to let yourself be contaminated by negative people.
3.- In meetings; If you are going to have a meeting, be it at work or on a personal level, it is never too much to consult the people who are going to participate. For example, if it is a work meeting, prepare a previous agenda where you establish the topics to be discussed. Afterwards, get in touch with the people who will participate in order to listen to their points of view and suggestions. Once you have the agenda completed, send it to the participants so they are prepared in advance.
In case it is a family reunion or with friends, inform the participants in advance, for example, if it is a lunch, you could consult the menu that you are going to offer, because it could be that someone who participates is allergic to any food, vegetarian , or have some type of medical restriction. Put yourself in the place of others and always ask yourself, how would I like to be treated?
4.- Demonstrate education: Be kind to others, show interest in what they say and always value the virtues they have. Do not make heavy jokes, or ridicule or make fun of the rest. Do not be part of gossip, let alone initiate it. It transmits positive words and points out the good of others. Teach the children of your environment to respect others too, as they are values that they will carry throughout their lives.
5.- Collaborate with the rest: If you are in a job and a new person comes, help them and try to feel welcome, orient them as much as possible and collaborate. Be a generous person and the rest will come by itself. Leave the spirit of competition and think about team work. Listen to other people and let them speak first, even if it's a topic you have experience with. If you are selfish and do not collaborate with others, sooner or later you will be left alone.
