Where would you rather be sailing

I have never been sailing which is kind of strange perhaps as New Zeland where I am from is a big sailing country, not surprising with all the coastline we have back there, but I do love taking photos of boats sailing on the water.

And for this post I will pose a question.

Where would you rather be out sailing from the two locations I will share below?

This first shot is at Gulf Beach in MIlford where I live, of a boat sailing back into the Marina from the Long Island Sound, to a small city.

And the second option is sailign along the East River, with views of the Manhattan skyling and close proximity to the Big Apple, one of the busiest and most active cities inthe world.

Now for the question, I asked earlier ignore the time of day ie daylight on the east river and Sunset on the one returning to harbor, but which would you prefer for location to be sailing?

Wishing everyone a great weekend

To some deserted island.

Ohh yes, thats a good option as well

Wow! Great scenery. A lovely place then for sailing. It's hard to choose where should I sail, I wish I could do it with both.

That's a cool answer, there not to far apart so both is of course an option

Gulf Beach for me!

ME to :)

I think I would love to sail in the Gulf at Milford. I love the architecture, the coastal feel....and that sunset, sigh.... Really beautiful pictures...although honestly I would love to sail in either @tatoodjay :)

Yes I do agree either would be nice but if I had to pick one I to would go for Milford ;)

I like both photos but I would sail in the gulf 😊

Thanks for your thoughts if I had to pick one it would be here :)

Howdy there JJ! wow, great shots, hard choice to make. I guess for me since I'm not familiar with Manhattan I think that would be a very interesting sight along the East River.

I have done a water boat tour around Manhattan and it is great with amazing views

I would choose the East River. I like to see the city but not be in it. Like some of the parks give that effect. The peace of sailing so close to the bustle of the city.

Yes that makes total sense i think from the water is the best way to see the city

Wonderful photos @tattoodjay It's interesting that you and I (both wandering Kiwis) I have chosen to immigrate to places surrounded by the sea. Perhaps it was an unconscious decison to bring part of 'home' with us. (U & R )

I think you may be spot on there, I know it was a big part of the decision to move here being by the water

I like the gulf beach. It would be my choice.

Love

That's my choice as well :)

I would say a more relaxed setting. I'd pay someone to captain so I can pass out, relaxing on the deck. Do either the 1st location or a tropical island.

Ohh yes that sounds such a good plan, a captain and a cook :)

Spectacular view! What a vibrant, striking lights. Beautiful colors, great photography as usual.

Thanks My friend

If I would know anything about sailing, which I obviously don't, I'd love to sail all the way down to the Caribbean Sea.

Ohh yea that would be a great experience would it not

We always thought it'd be fun to sail to NYC and see the skyline so I pick that one.

We sold our sailboat, we had a 30 foot morgan, which was a great weekender. We sailed mainly to and from the Vineyard, having a mooring in Oak Bluffs there, meant we could sail and hang out for a week or so. I miss it, but it is a lot of work and it is true that a boat is ' a hole in the water into which you throw money'. But, still, it's fun!

Yes seeing the skyline from the water is so cool around NYC, I have heard that saying about boats,

@tattoodjay I have done canoeing many times, but never cruise liners or sailing. The gulf seems to be a good option as long as one can reach isolated places! Blessings!

YEs indeed plenty of places to visit along the coast, I to have canoed a lot but never been sailing or cruising

Well... as long as someone else is doing the hard work of the sailing (I have no idea how it is done!), then the first photo looks much more appealing to me! I don't see the appeal in sailing in a built up city area!

The city skylines are cool views, but I to would prefer a more open area and someone who knows what they are doing sailing the boat

They look amazing both destinations, thought at night it can get a bit chilly.
I've only been sailing once with the kids on there school trip otherwise it would of only been motor boats, canoeing and ferries unless your in sea scouts or a sailing club most people in New Zealand haven't sailed, in Auckland the Maritime Museum does do school trips and events on big sailing boats for people to have this experience.

I thought i was the exception, as many of the Kiwis I have discussed it with over the last couple of years had sailed to some degree or another, I thought time had changed from when I was growing up as I didnt know anyone who sailed

I quess it depends on the person really, but you would think this is something every child should have an opportunity to do in New Zealand with being a yachting country.
Maybe theres too much choose with sports maybe or the area, as there are only certain areas that do the yachting.
I have noticed many people don't really know what activity's are out there for there kids, unless they are told etc.

Yes that makes a lot of sense, when I was growing up my focus was on Rugby mainly and soccer to a degree, made the regional team for both :) I guess I didnt have time back then to look into other sporting options LOL

I will have to pass on your two choices, neither appeal to me. In fact sailing doesn't even appeal to me but I do enjoy seeing things thru the lens of your camera and so that deserves a look and an upVote for sure.

Thanks Kindly my friend I guess it really doesnt appeal to me that much either since I have never sailed ;)

Bit different from Milford Sound in New Zealand. You must make sure to get someone to invite you on a twilight sail sometime.

Ohh yes quite a difference lOL

I actually was invited once, but turned it down as I didnt know who the person was they sent a random message on Farcebook, turns out I wish I had said yes they had a huge pleasure yacht

Presuming that it is an experienced sailor at the helm and not me, I believe I'd prefer the Long Island Sound. The East River seems constrained and confined which is much more motor boating water to me.

Thanks for the great photos and an interesting choice.

Thanks for your thoughts and I agree with you 100%
I enjoying doing the water taxi tour of the city but for sailing it would be on the sound
