Where have 3 years gone? Third Anniversary

It's my third anniversary of signing up for Steem. When I originally signed up I didn't have huge expectations. Learn about crypto and earn a bit of Steem. I didn't expect to get emotionally involved.

In the early days: I landed on Steem in the middle of the trending page with barely any crypto knowledge beyond having heard of Bitcoin, I had a lot to learn. It was August of 2016 and Steem was ranked 6th on the CoinMarketCap.

During my early days of Steem we talked a lot about the social experiment of Steem. We don't talk about that much anymore, but everyone recognized we had more questions than answers about how it all would work.

Love is a verb, which means you end up bonded and loving those things that you put sweat and tears into.

It took me a long time to build my account at the peak price of Steem it was once worth $94.000 (briefly and on paper)

I'm not going to say watching it slide back down to where it sits today wasn't hard.

I don't know anymore whether Steem is an investment or a hobby, but my posts still earn more here than they do on other sites.

Here are some gains I got from Steem:

Hours of exposure to Cryptocurrencies and now they work.
Which lead to many crypto investments and knowledge on how to buy, sell and use crypto, I do not take this lightly, it is a difficult task for those who first consider it.
The realization I will never write a novel.
Many great contacts who will also remain in cryptocurrency
My illusions of Freedom have been adjusted to be more realistic
A place to think through and talk about ideas.

I don't have a lot of expectations at this time of what Steem will and will not be in the future.

If you are new check your expectations! There are many who have big dreams, but at some point there has to also be some evidence. That is no reason to avoid Steem, just keep reasonable expectations.

Steem is more about Networking than Content. No one is going to shower you will rewards for showing up. You nearly have to pry Steem out of the system. Make friends, find a nitch, support all things Steem. Seek a peer circle rather than Dolphin and Whale votes as the numbers do not support seeking big votes.

Make friends and grow with them. In the long run, it pays off. There are plenty of paths to success find someone you consider successful and emulate them.

I think there is a decent chance I will be making a post next year too.

I just keep on posting...

Edited to add that I forgot to mention I met @zekepickleman! Whoot! :)

Well, well it wouldn't be the same if I didn't leave a comment on your 3 year.

Been a wild ride my friend, and I'm looking forward to another 3 + more.

I'll save the sobby stuff for the discord room lol

One of my first contacts on Steem! I just can't imagine it without you.

@whatsup,
I think STEEM will rank at top 10 again! Hope the current updates might help us to get that boost again!

And me! You met me!!

You would have never met me if it were not for the blockchain. Then where would you be! Better or worse?

The blockchain makes our lives better. Maybe it will end up making our portfolio better? Better than it is now and that ms good for me for the time being.

Congrats to one of the folks who I connected with before legions of others.

You are the blockchain for me.

3 years already huh? Happy steem anniversary sis! Good to have you around

Congratulations fellow August 2016 account. We've probably written a few novels worth of text but yeah, that masterpiece certainly isn't happening over here.

All the cool kids are using #steemiversary btw - sadly, no tokens for that one though :D

haha dang it! I missed being a cool kid again! Some things stay the same. :)

happy 3 whatsup

Thanks! :)

No matter what happens it continues to exist so the concept of becoming stronger when not dying is encouraging to consider! I still cannot find something else better to do which I enjoy the same so I am also here to stay!

Yeah, even when I am a little grumpy about it... I keep showing up. :)

wow 3 years of committing to steem lol you really are one of the OGs and I'm sure you've seen all sorts of dramas here. All the best for year 4 and beyond

We arrived here about the same time and my account was also worth almost $100k for a brief time. The social side is definitely important and it's been great to meet so many Steemians in person. I still see potential for people around the world to benefit from Steem. Places like Venezuela and Nigeria have taken to it. There are real business opportunities for those with the drive to chase them.

Where could we be in another 3 years? I don't think anyone really knows where crypto is heading.

Wooot! Congratulations on your anniversary. To me you have been 'the voice of reason' of Steemit since first I joined, though these past many months you have really grown into your place here. A worthy leader and one I hold in high esteem lol....On to year 4!!!

On to four! And thank you.

£ years and still early days. I'll be waiting for the 5 year post and see where we are at that stage. Gives you two years to get that novel fired out. How hard could it be?

I always say I have a 5 year attention span. Then I am usually off to do a new thing... so it is very likely I will make a 5 year post.

Three years, it's remarkable how much had happened and how much has changed in those three years and yet remarkable how much remains the same!

This really hit home. Somethings are very different and yet somethings remain the same!

3 years, wow. i do enjoy your post be them happy or "pissed off" so i do hope you will make that 4 year anniversary post, and that i will be here to read it.

It's fairly likely ... :) and thank you

Another veteran :D

Congrats, 3 years on this roller-coaster riding the bulls and the bears proves that you must not be a complete fool. Takes some guts and just the right amount of insanity to stick with it.

haha... Guts and Insanity!

The funny part is we still don't know if we are the smart ones who saw the potential, or the idiots who rode it down.

I'm willing to find out.

Can't win if you don't try!

Congratulations!
Hopefully Steem gets back up to $8 and even higher someday.
What site do you think is second best? I tried Trybe but I like Steemit better.

Congratulations on 3 years @whatsup .. i think we both arrived in Steemspeak around the same time .. and then came with them to discord.

and yeah you met @zekepickleman..he's pretty cool on and off the chain

:) Yes, you were there first. I remember thinking... Oh, she must be a programmer. :)

lol, funny first impressions.

Glad we are both still here.

haha some days I do good to develop a thought.

I'm glad we are here too

Happy three years!! Damn, time sure does fly by fast these days 😀

It sure does... On one hand it feels like forever and on the other side.. it feels like yesterday.

How beautiful you are dear @whatsup through steem I met you and through the discord we sang together hahaha, then if you can create affections by this means and those who are constant you can become good friends. Congratulations on your anniversary, I share a big hug. Good vibes ;)

Thank you for your always kind and sweet words!

congrats wu, you have a beautiful story that can be inspirational. I'm glad that I encountered some of your post then I followed you.

happy three years anniversary ! BRAVO 💚
you was for me on of the first I followed the work, when I arrived one year ago as a total crypto novice ! thanks you :))

Nice going @whatsup. Keep up the good work. Thinking of Steem as a hobby is probably the better attitude to have to remain interested.

Happy three years whatsup, it was my two year (steem) birthday last week 🙂

When I originally signed up I didn't have huge expectations. Learn about crypto and earn a bit of Steem. I didn't expect to get emotionally involved.

Ha ha, you and me both. I find it's important to try and stay objective on steem. I often fail in my attempts to reach for objectivity 🤣

Just gotta keep on sharing and posting.
In my anniversary post I talk about the importance of the 'educational value' of steem. I think it's often overlooked.

You talk about it here as well.

Here are some gains I got from Steem: Hours of exposure to Cryptocurrencies and now they work.
Which lead to many crypto investments and knowledge on how to buy, sell and use crypto.

Since joining steem I've learned Photoshop editing techniques, video editing, html/markdown and got better at using keywords for SEO. Also, my crypto game has got better, although I'm still a crappy trader, I've finally learned how to offset the fomo effect and keep to my stop losses.

All of these new skills, or improvements, were learned on steem. Either through practice, or from other people's content. This is the hidden gold for me in steem, these skills will last a lifetime.

I didn't come into this hoping to get rich, but somehow along the way, I started to buy into that idea.

Adjusting my expectations back down has been a bit of a challenge.

Yes! The education value of Steem was worth it if I had never taken a cent out yet.

Happy anniversary!

I was trying to give !BEER but it isn't working sadly... I know they have been editing setting recently.

Glad you are here with us and still enthusiastically posting and enjoying Steem.

Thank you! Yeah, I admit... I'm somewhat addicted and can be a bit moody about it as well.

Congrats on the three years being on the platform.

If you are new check your expectations! There are many who have big dreams, but at some point there has to also be some evidence. That is no reason to avoid Steem, just keep reasonable expectations.

Good level headed advice, especially for those who plan on sticking around.

Continued success and have a great day!

Congratulations dear @whatsup. Nigerians will say "3yrs no be beans😂😂". " being active for 3yrs is not easy".

Well-done ✌💙

Congratulations on your third Anniversary!
