Burmese Authorities Extorts Money from Multiple Village Admins

Buthidaung: Burmese authorities threatened to obtain huge sum*s of money from several village administrators in the remaining populated villages of Buthidaung Township on 21st December, reports a local.

The Burmese administrator from Buthidaung Township named Kyaw Myint Twin threatened and obtained 300,000 Kyat from village admin of Khin Tha Ma village tract, 1,500,000 from village admin and 1,000,000 Kyat from vice village admin of Mee Kyaung Zay village tract.

On the same day, village admin of Dar Bine Sara village tract was also forced to pay an amount of 700,000 Kyat to the same Burmese administrator.

In parallel to money extortion, thousands of Rohingya students are deprived of education, both from religious and schooling sides.

This has left the parents ruminating their children's future and ultimately the future of the community itself.

The remaining Rohingay are also battling with health care issues especially among the elderly and children.

Rohingya in northern Buthidaung Township are facing similar extreme situations like other thousands of Rohingya in other parts of Arakan Township and their suffering is seen to be accelerating day by day.
