Butterflies - Colorful Insects in Austria

Spring is comming and I am really happy about it. This morning I slept a little longer and I plan to visit the wetlands of the Traun River for some bird photography in the afternoon. We'll see if I am lucky and can take some nice pictures from birds. I will also take my macro lens with me, as I hope to find some Insects. In the last two years I had several opportunities to take some pictures of butterflies that I found in the nature. It is probably a bit early for butterflies but we'll see if I am successful.

During several Trips here in Austria I was able to find butterflies in Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Vienna, Salzburg and Burgenland. I have some friends in Vienna that are very good in Butterfly Photography and I hope I will meet them soon for some photography, but due to Covid Regulations it is a bit difficult at the moment. Until this time I try to do some photography on my own and investigate some nice places here near Linz. I already know a place where I found butteflies last year. It is situated near my old homeplace. Also the "Butterfly tree" of my parents is a very good place to find them. On the "Buddleja davidii" it is easy to find some butterflies. Nearly every summer I find several buttefly species there.

Butterflies and other insects need natural flowers and grassland. That's why it is important for them that there is enough nectar available. So it would be important that the flowers at the green reserves between the streets are not cut down during spring time, or even better also during summer because they provide an important food source for insects and butterflies like these.
