There has been a movement in our society where everyone wants to get fit and lose weight more so than even fifteen years ago. Now people want to find quick fixes when it comes to losing weight. Whether it is to fit into that dress you’ve had your eye on, or because beach season is coming up and you want to look good in a bathing suit.
People want to lose weight and fast.
It stems from this age where we have instant gratification with smart phones and drive through windows for fast food. The availability of items at this amazing speed makes waiting for something almost a medieval concept. This is why people look to fad diets when it comes to losing weight. The problem is, though, that they don’t work.
The internet is filled with different kinds of diets. There’s paleo, veganism, keto, clean eating, liquid diets, cleanses, fasting, and so many others, but if you’re looking to lose weight, weight that is going to stay off and not come back the second you’re done with the diet, then these won’t work. What will work? Something called the caloric deficit.
What that means is you simply have to eat less than what your body expends every day. You don’t even have to exercise in order to lose weight. You just need to stop eating more than your body needs. The only reason why you lose weight on those other diets is because you’re eating less than what you normally would. The reason, though, that the weight doesn’t stay off is because you stop doing the diet and then you’re back to eating more than your body needs, which is called a caloric surplus, and then you gain it back.
So, what can you do to keep the weight off? Stop doing these fad diets and simply make a lifestyle change, which includes the caloric deficit.
To lose weight is simple- you eat less than your body needs. To gain weight is also simple- you eat more than your body needs. You find out the amount of calories you need to maintain your weight and then you eat less than that number. It’s unnecessary to take part in all of these “fad” diets when in a year or two there will be a new diet out and this one might just tell you that eating dirt is the solution to your weight loss problems.
Plain and simple: you don’t need fad diets to lose weight. You just need to be in a caloric deficit and oddly enough, you don’t even need to spend money on a plan in order to figure out your calorie number.
Thanks to our day and age, technology will give you a calorie calculator if you ask Google. You could even ask Siri to find one for you or maybe Alexa. Either way, ignore these fad diets and stick to the caloric deficit. You’ll see the results you want and be happy you did.
