I have been trying out cast iron with my camping stove and its been a learning process. Finding a high temp neutral oil is key. Watch me make a decent steak and smoke out my garage😄

Cast iron is awesome, been using them since I was a kid. Looks like ya just need to turn down the heat. We always used Canola, but I have used olive, grape seed oil and also butter. Around the camp fire some preheat the pan near the fire, then pull it back and cradle on some rocks in a horse shoe arrangement. You can scoop/drag coals from the fire into horseshoe to get your heat just right.

Thats a good idea. Im still in search of the perect oil. It may be the stove just puts out too much heat
