Via Richard Rose from Cannabis Historian Chris Bennett !

Here are examples of cannabis art from the "tower of the escape" of which construction started in 1220 in Bologna, Italy.

Under this tower, above the vault of 'Canton Di Fiori (Flowers Town) You can read a particular Latin inscription whivh reads "Panis life, Canabis protectio, Vinum laetitia."
Tranlated means, "Bread is life, Cannabis is protection, Wine is joy."

This demonstrates the great cultural importance that the cultivation of hemp held for the city of Bologna since ancient times.

Canabis protectio. Wonder whether that refers to its use as clothing, fiber for rope to pull armaments, guide horses, wrap sword handles? Very interesting find !
