Perpetual Indoor/Outdoor Grow Journal #18: Gorilla plants, bamboo forest and LST

in cannabis โ€ขย  7 years agoย

I visited my gorilla plants today... and they're still there, so they survived on their own, and weren't even bothered by the snails, that keep munching on sweet basil in my garden

๐Ÿ‘Š ๐ŸŒˆ

It's been rainy though ๐ŸŒ, so they didn't get enough light, but the main problem with these IMO is they don't react well to the natural photoperiod.

I mean they're healthy, strong and everything, but they're gonna produce shit. Probably lest than a half of what my indoor ones are setting for.

They are very different phenotypic expressions too. Colours, leaf shapes, size of calyxes, structure. Everything's different in nature basically as in opposed to indoor environment ๐ŸŒ…

One thing that hasn't changed though is the smell. They're still after the same terpenes. However, these are more delicate and sweeter. But they are younger plants too.

And when I was done with pics I hit my private bamboo patch, where I got a few small stakes for my indoor White Querkle, that was LSTed shortly afterwards ๐ŸŒพ ๐ŸŒด

These fuckers spread via runner root, which can be a real pain in the ass if it starts breaking into your vegetable beds, so you need to keep these plants under control if they grow nearby. Cement barrier works pretty well! Otherwise they are very hard to stop, and if the soil is fertile, they'll overtake everything in a few seasons.

These for example are young plants, which grow from small shoots, and when they're still tiny they're edible... this stuff is actually VERY popular in Asian cuisine!

And this is my White Querkle after some LST! A bushy plant already, which I hope will gain from a more horizontal style of growing. Three tops were tied down to bamboo stakes basically with some rubber cord, which I reuse ๐ŸŒ

And this is the tent after the tweak! I think autos will produce better that way. Leaf temperature was in norm when I measured it, and they took it rather well.

They had a visitor today as well ๐Ÿฑ

Cat drench, fresh from the source ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ˜น

Cat drench guarded by a cat, isn't that nice? ;)

Did you have them under 24 hour indoor light and move them outside? I find that fucks with them

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

I've had them under 18/6 and then moved them outdoor. From what I figured anything less than that will drastically lower the production unless it's a monster genotype. Outdoor also brings more ruderalis traits and this is bad for yield too.

The White Querkle blends in well with the native plants!

Yes she does, they all blend in so well actually, that you can hardly see the LED :)

Hell yeah! Keep it coming.

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

I will :)

Hopefully Iโ€™ll be doing some urban gurellia farming in the near future ๐Ÿ˜‰

Try it. It'll prepare you for everything that can come at ya outdoor!

You the man!

Nice job! Couple tid-bits I didn't know in here... I was not aware that outdoor growing accentuated ruderalis traits.

It has been one of my dreams to do an outdoor gorilla grow... growing season is really only June-August where I'm at. Cutting her pretty close but I'll give her a shot sometime with a 2-4 week indoor start. Definitely all autos for me.

Have you ever done any phyto strains outdoors, tenting for light cycle?

ย  ยท ย 7 years agoย

Yeah they seem to get into their ruderalis roots once you put them outdoor! When I outplanted them they weren't different from the other ones and then they just changed completely.

With photos I start from seed around February/March and put them outdoor directly, so no photoperiod adjustment necessary and no problems such as reveg.

Loving your yard. It seems slightly tropical there where you are. Everything is so green and beautiful. Those little ladies are doing mighty fine in that sunshine. I like seeing the various genetics that are out there, curious how those ruderalis are gonna finish up

It's typical Mediterranean vegetation and it's very green. We might share some characteristics with sub-tropical zone although we're further north.

I think they suffer under natural photoperiod though as they were bred for 24/0.
