The cannabis industry is undergoing an awakening. It’s as if the masses are finally beginning to see the myriad of health benefits derived from the marijuana plant. It’s time to break the stigma.
This movement is global in nature; Canada’s legal marijuana market will be a $6.5 billion industry by 2020, which far outpaces the country’s liquor sales in 2017 and is closing in on wine sales.
Why are more people turning to marijuana over alcohol? The benefits offered by cannabis are attractive to health conscious consumers, while alcohol delivers very little, if any, of those benefits. There is also a strong overlap in consumers amongst the “women and older, wealthier” categories.
Above all, cannabis provides a “gluten-free, no calorie high that does not tax the liver, kidneys, or eat away at the brain”. With all of the stress relief and none of the public health risks of alcohol, it’s not surprising that so many consumers are willing to give cannabis a try.
More and more people are beginning to view cannabis as an optimal wellness tool. It has been found that stimulating the endocannabinoid system through cannabis consumption can promote balance, creativity, and calm. An increasing number of people are rejecting the traditional pharmaceutical industry and are opting for more holistic approaches, often incorporating cannabis. The health food scene is welcoming cannabis in many forms including CBD oil infusions, juicing, and edibles. Also important to note is the fact that hemp has been classified as a super food.
