Cardiff in the winter

Rode my bike into town today. I took the river path through the trees and fields to the castle and locked the bike at the front of the castle and went in and took a couple photos.

This first image is of a castle inside Cardiff castle. I didn't realise how big it was until I went inside. When I went to pay I found it more than I could pay so couldn't take any more pictures.

This image is of the outside and shows just one part of one wall. It's a big castle.

I went into the indoor market then for a sandwich and a cup of tea. Saw Elvis singing at the top of the steps.

Always liked Elvis.

Afterwards I went walking around town and sauntered into one of the arcades which Cardiff is famous for.

IMG_9320.JPG

This one was empty today but usually it's full of people spilling out of the cafes.

At the end of one of the arcades I stared into a pub and saw this:

IMG_9357.JPG

Two men talking over a pint of beer. Just a typical British pub scene.

This next one is a tobacconist that I passed and on looking in just had to take a photo. Not too clear as I need a better lens, but not too bad.

IMG_9347.JPG

I took a lot of pictures but will only put these eleven up for today.

This one is of Cardiff library in the town centre.

I forgot to get crusty bread rolls so had to go back to the market and saw these two in there.

This last for today is of someone getting new shoes in a shoe shop. I took the image through the glass.

One last one in black and white of another Welsh pub...

Love ALL the pics but the pub shot (first one) and the shoe shop are my favourites!!!!!

I took a lot of photos of Cardiff and found these ones the best. I agree with you that the people make the photo

Cool pics, thanks for sharing

Hey @wales

Really enjoyed this post and its accompanying photos. I'm reminded of my travels through Ireland on 4 different excursions.

Thanks for generating warm memories! Speaking of memories, here's a photo from a few years ago, pulling to side of road after crossing the Snake River in Twin Falls, ID.

Thanks to @jaynie for resteem of your article. I'm following you now; glad to "see you" on my feed.

Peace and smiles

Thanks; it's all good

Very cool pics. There's a castle inside a castle? I want to go there!

As for Elvis - he was a super huge big deal here in the USA. Was he as big of a deal in the UK?

Also, the pic in the shoe shop is by far my favorite. It is such a quaint scene and seems to sum up the feeling of the area you visited.

Yes, Elvis was loved here as well. I've got a couple of the shoe shop, was kind of drawn to it. Yes, Cardiff castle is so big it has a castle inside it

I definitely need to see Cardiff then. A castle in a castle. Then we need a toy castle in that, with its very own toy castle inside.

@mattifer You should definitely visit Cardiff, the Castle is even more impressive on the inside and you can go to the top of the roof of the "castle in a castle". The castle was built on the site of roman fort and the remains can still be seen today. Castle Coch on the outskirts of town is also worth a visit "The Fairytale Castle"
The shoe shop you saw is family run and is called "The Brogue Trader" they sell top quality British hand made shoes with an emphasis on quality and service. Stop by and they'll give you a coffee or a beer while you browse. They spend their first shop (the one pictured) about 4 (ish) years ago and have rapidly expanded to ten stores across the UK and run by the whole family, Chris, Jo and their 3 grown up children. (Clearly I do know them and yes they do have an online presence if looking for top quality craftsman made shoes!!)
Come visit Cardiff, the Welsh people are very welcoming and if it coincides with a big sporting event at the stadium it's a great atmosphere ad marvel at the bilingual road signs haha.

That sounds like a whole lot of fun and history and bundled together. I'm fascinated by the castle in a castle on a fort! And how cool that the family business is prospering. So many craftsman-type businesses have failed with the advent of mass manufacturing.

Awww you make me miss Wales! I can't wait for my son to leave school so we can finally move there for good! I will probably head more into the countryside though, or at least a rural area near the south west coast :) Lovely pics!

Thanks. I used to live in New Quay in west Wales in a big house overlooking the sea, it was great, I'd watch the boats and the seals and dolphins, lovely place to live

OMG that sounds AMAZING! New Quay is a beautiful place :D

Great pics - the castle is beautiful.
Glad you like Elvis - he is still my best.
All in all, I loved the photos and had a smile at all the old lounge lizards in the pub.

Found them in one of the arcades as I was walking past. Originally I was going down to the docks and maybe the sea but decided to stick with Cardiff town centre. For some reason I like this shoe shop one that I took through the window
IMG_9340.JPG

Yes I also liked that one - almost from another era

Amazing! Winter, but I don't see snow! Do you have warm weather in winter?

We do have snow some years, but being by the sea makes it hard for snow, but sometimes on the hills

Enjoyed this area when we traveled, camped inside a castle back in 1978 not sure if that is still there.

Thanks for the tour of the town @wales

#powerhousecreatives

There's a castle in west Wales that can be camped in but not Cardiff castle, it's a heritage site. Glad you liked the images

Another castle in another country, wow had to pull out my diary from October 1978 to refresh...

We stayed in Hoddom Castle, Ecclefechan, Scotland. Looked online to see what it looks like today, it has become quite commercial, I suppose that happens in life.

Toured a lot through Wales, never reached Cardiff for some reason. Really enjoyed seeing your content, thanks for sharing.

Looks like a fun-filled day! Lovely shots and a good diversity of shots in the series! Kudos!

Thank you
