Carnival in Gomera is very popular and they love to celebrate it. They put a lot of effort into their costumes and prepare long long time for this event.
In Teneriffa, the island next to Gomera , there is the secong biggest carnival celebration in the world. Sure the carnival is smaller than in Brasil, but the meaning is definetly the same for them ;)
It has the feeling, that the whole polulation of Gomera is taking part here, the two biggest events are in San Sebastian and Valle Gran Rey, where i took this video.
They start in the evening and are lasting some hours, after they passed the streets with music and many drums, showing their nice dresses and dressed cars, they start their fiesta and dance all the night long and music is placing till 6.
Traditional Activity during Carnival in La Gomera are the Murgas, which are critical and wmusant Songs about actual political situations and social topics. Because of their funny humour they are very popular by the gomeros.
The Carnival is ending with the traditional! Enterrio de la Sardina" - the funeral of the sardine. Therefore they make a big Sardine out of Pappmache and burn it on the beach and then throw it into the sea.
