I've been interested in nutrition since I could remember. Im always reading books, watching youtube videos, listening to podcasts, you name it.
I also love to experiment with new ways of eating to see how my body responds.

A little background on my health.

I have PCOS (polycistic ovarian syndrome) which comes with an array of problems, mostly related to metabolism. So that would include blood sugar issues, sluggish thyroid, adrenal fatigue, estrogen dominance etc, etc.
I also suffer from really bad digestive issues, SIBO and IBS.

Im 30 years old, I've always been active in one way or another and for the most part I eat pretty clean. The term "clean" only referring to sticking to the guidelines of my chosen way of eating at the time.
For the past decade clean meant high protein, mod carbs, low fat. (Im sure most people can relate to this one)
I then luckily found the ketogenic diet about 2 years ago and Ive honestly never looked back, I know keto is the latest buzz and what some poeple would call a "fad diet" because somehow people believe it is not sustainable. Which is absolute BS in my opinion.

Anyway, so I would love to get into talking about keto as I honestly believe if people understood how exactly it works and why it works, the world will be a different place. But this post is actually on my self experiment with the carnivore diet.

What is the carnivore diet ?

Basically it is our primal ancestral way of eating, which is pretty much anything from the animal kingdom and very little to none from the plant kingdom. Sounds crazy right ?? Arent veggies the best thing for us ?
Turns out....this might not be so true.
I know, when I first heard of this diet I immediately wrote it off in my mind, it sounded ludicrous!
The more I read about it and tried to understand why people were doing this, the more it started to make sense.

"Pure carnivore" most people believe- is beef, salt and water.
Myself and many others do not eat this way though, I include Beef, pork, chicken and lamb. I love eating nose to tail, so I include everything from muscle meat, connective tissue and organ meats. I also eat eggs and dairy.

I dont think this post will be an attempt to get into why I am starting to believe that plants are making us sick.
But, I will list some really good resources if you're interested.

My personal experience so far

So I started with eating primarily meat about 8 weeks ago. I wont lie, the first 2 weeks was tough.
I craved fresh stuff, salads and fruits and I kind of felt depressed, physically though my chronic constant bloating went away almost immediately?!

Needless to say I thought that it wasnt for me and I quit the diet. I continued eating veggies for about a week and the bloating and stomach pain was back.
I then decided to give the diet another go, and pretty much immediately just got into the groove.
The deep pending doom feeling that I had in the first two weeks was gone, my stomach pain was gone, my bloating was gone, my constant fatigue during the day was gone, my mood improved and I lost a few pounds.

Throughout the last 8 weeks I have also cheated from time to time in the form of coffee, nuts, coconut milk, sourdough bread and chocolate.
I believe that this is why I haven't seen a massive shift in my weight, and hopefully I can grow to be a little more strict, at least until I've fully healed my gut issues.

I feel great though and I think this experiment will continue.
I shall report back!

Did carnivore for a month the same month I took a break from cannabis. Felt great lost even more weight, I have been doing keto for a year strict and never have I been fitter, healthier or been this light since grade 9, I am 20 kg lighter than my matric year.

I can't call myself carnivore anymore, because I love macadamia nuts, coffee ☕ and occasional tomato. But meat or eggs every meal.

I was very surprised too see this post. And I am happy you are having such great results. Good luck for the future!

Hope that you'll get healthier with the diet @aliciasteyn 😉 I never done any diet because I don't need to. But I always appreciated those who chosen to be a vegan or carnivore through out their lives 😉 in my understanding is as long as you consume foods that you really need abd in the right measure.. you'll have a happy and healthy life too.

Thats exactly right @cicisaja I have a lot of respect for vegans and vegetarians too. I think as long as you feel healthy and good then you're on the right track
