Carnivore 75 Hard Redux: Day One

in carnivore75hard •  5 years ago

When I first started this blog, it was actually to document my experience with the original Carnivore 75 Hard challenge which started in October of last year. I ended up abandoning the challenge pretty early on, mostly because I'd had too many days in a row during which I didn't meet the criteria. Around the time it started was when I got some devasting news about a family member, and it was a difficult time for me to focus on anything, let alone a lifestyle challenge.

I got the idea to start the challenge again from this Instagram post:

What specifically appealed to me was the notion of setting some custom goals. One of the areas in which I was struggling last time was getting outside for at least 15 minutes every single day. Where I live, the weather can be especially horrible sometimes, and it's just not ideal to get outside every single day. I think it's easy for people who live where it's warm all the time to think it's possible, but sometimes the temperatures are literally either single-digit numbers or even negative numbers.

That said, I do get outside many days, even when there's snow, ice, or rain. It's just not every day. When I do, it's for much longer than 15 minutes.

I'm going to straight-up steal some of the custom goals in this Instagram post, but I'll also change a few to suit me better.

My Carnivore 75 Hard Redux Goals

Nutrition

Eat meat, eggs, and limited dairy only. At home, I eat cheese made with raw or unpasteurized milk and that's about it. There are times when I'll have "regular" cheese, but that's typically only if I get food from a restaurant, which is pretty rare for me these days. I will also be consuming black coffee. I started off World Carnivore Month intending to quit coffee, but I quietly gave in to that addiction about a week ago. I seem to handle coffee just fine, and it has enough benefits that I think it balances out some of the possible negatives.

A few days prior to the start of the original Carnivore 75 Hard Challenge, I gave up alcohol. I have also quit a certain other substance that people like jazz musicians and Cheech and Chong are quite fond of. That means I'm now completely sober, which is something I plan to continue for as long as I can, but certainly throughout this entire challenge. Being sober helps me stick to my other goals without much of a struggle. Go figure, right?

Healing

Copying the same thing as in this Instagram post because I like the idea. A minimum of 16:8 fasting every day with one 36+ hour fast per week. Autophagy and all that!

Movement

I've already sort of got this goal, but I'm going to make it official by adding it to this challenge. My movement goal will be to get in at least 10,000 steps per day. While the majority of these will be outside, that will not be a requirement. If it's storming or extremely cold, I will get the steps in on the elliptical or something like that, and that will satisfy the requirements.

Mindset

I'm also copying the same thing from this Instagram post. Why? Because the gratitude journal honestly felt a little forced last time I attempted this challenge. I've thought the same thing about some of the examples I saw other people post about. They'd write things like "My family, my husband, my cat" or something like that... three things which are pretty damn similar. Then the next day would be the same thing.

So, instead of a gratitude journal, I will be doing the same... at least 30 minutes of a supportive podcast, audiobook, or YouTube video every day. I will be sharing what I find the most useful. Truth be told, I consume at least 30 minutes of this type of content nearly every single day, but making it part of this challenge and sharing what I like the best will make me more mindful about what I'm consuming.

Community

Sticking with the default on this one, too. Each day, I'll give someone a genuine compliment or engage in a random act of kindness.

Here's the original explanation video:

So, yeah, wish me luck. Join in if you want. There are other people doing this challenge for the first time and many going for round 2. This will keep me focused as well as giving me a reason to blog every day, which is another goal of mine. All of my blog posts get pushed to the Steem blockchain as well, and I mean to post there at least once a day, but sometimes it doesn't happen. If I make sure to get in 10,000 steps per day, that will help with my daily Actifit post. If you get in a lot of steps every day and you want to eat a little crypto for it, you should sign up.
