Since its acquisition by the Indian Mahindra, the Korean manufacturer SsangYong renews its range with regularity, and launches models with more consensual design. Despite a weakening of the won which weighed on the result of the brand (49 million euros of losses in 2017), the Geneva Motor Show intends to show the dynamism of the SUV specialist. This goes through the presentation of the, based on the recent Rexton, but also a new concept car, the e-SIV.
The e-SIV has the dual role of prefiguring the Korando's replacement and announcing the arrival of future electric models within the range. Launched in 2010, the current Korando arrives indeed at the end of career, having already undergone two restylings. 4.46 m long, this concept car intends to announce the next generation, with a template that is placed directly in the heart of the compact SUV segment. The Peugeot 3008, Renault Kadjar, Citroen C5 Aircross and Volkswagen Tiguan are therefore directly targeted.
A more pleasant style for the future SsangYong Korando
Aesthetically, the e-SIV forgets the somewhat muddy lines of its predecessor, yet designed by Giugiaro. The floating pavilion and the sharp quarter-post recall little Tivoli. The back is modernized by a strip of lights that takes the whole width. This concept car announces a fast track driving assistant capable of managing speed, safety distance with the previous vehicle and track maintenance. Depending on the number of sensors, this device may or may not allow the driver to release the steering wheel.
This first step towards autonomous driving signifies SsagnYong's ambitions in the future. Like many studies before him, the e-SIV is electric. If the manufacturer is silent about the characteristics of this engine, he announces already the marketing of a Tivoli electric for 2019, able to compete with his countryman the Hyundai Kona electric, also unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2018.
