A lot of JDM cars are Turbocharged, or Twin Turbocharged, but what does this really mean, if you're just getting into cars and are wondering about how this works then read on:
A normal combustion engine, as used on most cars today uses fuel mixed with air to supply the explosive mixture that powers our cars, be this petroleum or diesel fuel.
Terminology:
Cars without any type of Turbo or Supercharging are referred to as Naturally Apsirated or NA for short. Cars that have a Turbo or Supercharger are referred to as Forced Induction.
How does it work
A Turbocharger works by forcing air into the air intake of the engine. The Turbo unit consists of a compressor fan in a snail shell shaped housing, this fan is mounted on a shaft, at the back side of the shaft is another fan, in another housing, but this one is driven by the exhaust gas from the engine.
So with more air being force fed to the engine, we can add more petrol, this results in more power, which in turn makes more exhaust gas and you've guessed it haven't you? Yes that's right, it drives the Turbo even faster, forcing even more air into the engine intakes and therefore producing even more power, this cycle is limited by the amount of fuel that can be mixed with the air and how much of this volatile mixture can be "eaten" up by the motor itself.

Nice article, but when it come to Turbochargers, I always have the words of The American (The Grand Tour - Season 1) in mind: "Turbochargers? Gods way to tell you, you have not enough cylinders" :D
But this quote aside, it's a very good article, even though I'm very frightened by the picture with the yellow glowing parts - that can't be healthy at all.
Keep on writing, I follow you and I'm looking forward for the next article.
Btw: supercharger > turbocharger, when it comes to the sound - I prefer a choochoo in my car ;)

Haha well the Turbo is probably the devils work, along with the rotary engine.
