Anime has grown in popularity the last couple of years. It's not as unknown as it used to be. Today i'm writing this blog to guide people into the exciting world of Anime. People have the tendency to compare anime with other cartoons, but in reality there's a big difference.
Where normal cartoons have limitations, anime doesn't have any. It's not surprising to see some inappropriate, voilent or adult content. That's why it's important to note that some anime isn't ment for people of all ages. To make the process a little easier, i'll be making an overview of shows that i like to watch.
Sword art online
This anime has an interesting intake on the connection between games and anime. The main character is a boy called Kirito, who's kind of self-involved and doesn't interfere with other people business. In this world there exist a new hardward called Nervegear. You can see this technology as a more evolved version of the oculus rift.
This technology is used to play a MMORPG game called Sword Art Online. Although this game seems to be fun in the beginning, players learn very quickly that this world has limitations. The only way to leave this world is by clearing the game. But this game also has an impact on your real life, meaning that if you die in the virtual world, you'll also die in the real world.
Genre: action, adventure, sciencefiction, fantasy and romance.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the rebellion
This anime tells the sad story of Japan being conquered by the Holy Empire of Britannia. A society where there's an inquality between it's japanese and British citizens. Lelouch hates his family, although he's the son of the British emperor. He blames his father for the death of this mother and the disability of his sister. Because of his disdain, he has been exciled from the royal family.
Powerless to change anything, Lelouch meets a girl called C.C., granting him with the power called "Geass"
This power grants him the ability to control people, with his mind. But there's a limitation to his new found powers, he can only use it once on the same person. The succes of this show lies in it's intriguing plot twists.
Genre: action, sciencefiction, fantasy, adventure and psychological thriller.
Deathnote
Deathnote can be considered being a masterpiece. Deathnote tells the story of "Yagami Light", who sees the world as being a little bit "boring". One day he discovers the "Death Note", a notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it.
At first, Light is a bit hesitant, but decides to experimenting with the notebook. After writing a couple of names, he get's the confirmation that the book does indeed kills anyone whose name is written in it. Later on, he meets the Shinigami Ryuk, the notebook's original owner, who dropped the notebook to the human world out of boredom. Who explains him the rules of the book.
Light than decides to take on the roll of a god called "Kira" in order to rid the world of criminals. The way he uses his new found powers makes people question his motives. Eventually, it leads to the police trying to stop Akira, but they soon discover that they're dealing with a formidable foe. In order to make this an even fight they decide to enlist the help of a world-famous detective called "L".
