The Catalan leader Puigdemont will make a statement at 9 p.m. (1900 GMT) on Wednesday, after an all-party committee of the region's parliament meets to agree a date for a plenary session on independence.
This is huge, the Catalan Government has decided to declare independence on Monday. I wonder what the Spanish regime will do now?

After almost 900 citizens was harmed by police (according to Catalonia health authority, so it may be an inflated balance), Spanish government will surely prevent independence at all cost.
The referendum results cannot be valid because there was no observers, most of the process managers was pro-independency volunteers, and there are evidences of people being able to vote multiple times. People was able to vote in the voting point they chose, and the referendum was not halted when the informatic system that prevented double-voting for the same person crashed.
But even in the case Spain agreed to allow independence, Catalonia can´t survive as an independent country. Outside the EU and the European Central Bank, without international support and with high-yield bond ( Catalonia had to stop issuing bonds because not even the most nationalist citizens bought them, all their debt is being bought by Spanish government) How would it get financing? By launching an ICO?

I take it that you do not live in Catalonia. I dont argue against the validity of the referendum, but any people on earth should be able to become independent when they are treated like criminals when they are trying to cast a vote.
I just dont get it, why wouldnt the Spanish government just let it happen and then say, ok, you voted and we know what you want, but we will not allow you to seceed according to Spanish law, see you in court!
Im against all governments and some city/region must be at the forefront and that could very well be Catalonia. I have said it before, EU and the Euro will fail, the US as well for that matter, it is just a part of a natural cycle, and this is exactly the kind of event that could trigger that avalance.

Yes, I live in Spain but not in Catalonia. I disagree about the use of violence for preventing a referendum.
For more than 10 years, nationalists parties has been using the slogan "Spain steal us" to catch votes. It is true that Catalonia pay more taxes than the investment it obtains, but it is one of the richest regions, and when the taxes are compared to the GDP of the region it is not the most injured at all.
For many decades, the votes of nationalist parties was necessary for forming a government in Spain, so they exploited that to get a better budget and obtain coverage against corruption complaints. That is not the case anymore, and what a coincidence that since then they started to push for a declaration of independence.
It is also true that the current party at the government in Spain has fomented hate towards Catalonia for obtaining votes in the rest in the country for many years.
This situation reminds me of the Brexit. I think that a lot of people that did not vote or that voted yes did it as protest vote or because they believe the propaganda of the pro-independent. They think that the day after the independence is declared, Catalonia will magically became Switzerland.
I want that Catalonia stays in Spain, but I think in the current situation a referendum is unavoidable, proposing additional measures for increasing autonomy and with independent reviews that predict the consequences of the separation. And the longer that is postponed, the lower the chances are that people will vote no for the independence.
