Introducing Darren—A Fasting Catholic

in catholic •  6 years ago  (edited)

My name is Darren, and I'm a Catholic convert who generally eats only one meal a day (OMAD), a form of intermittent fasting.

Due to the high-profile scandals associated with the Church, this is not the easiest time to be Catholic. But at the same time, it's exciting. (It also provides plenty of obvious spiritual reasons to fast.)

I'm all for investigating the claims of abuse so that the truth is made known. The filth in the hierarchy needs to be expunged.

Truthfully, one of the primary reasons I became Catholic as an adult is the hierarchy—more specificially, the understanding that bishops are the successors of the apostles. But just as the fact that one of the Twelve apostles (Judas) was a bad apple did not invalidate the role of the apostles, neither do any bad bishops today strip the bishops of their legitimate authority in matters of faith and morals.

While I pray and fast for the health of the Church and for victims of abuse, my fasting has also improved my health. It cured my type 2 diabetes and burned off 40 pounds of body fat in two-and-a-half months. And I'm maintaining my health and weight without difficulty.

So these are two of my passions: (1) authentic Catholicism and (2) leading a fasting-focused lifestyle.

This is me: Darren.
