My parents just got two kittens last year. You could have knocked me over with a feather when they told me because all my life, my dad has had a known dislike for cats. He barely likes dogs; he's always said dogs should be big and should not live in the house except at night to sleep. Perhaps I shouldn't be that surprised because although we had "outdoor" dogs growing up, the last several years they've had a big dog and a "yap-dog" as he would say, a little toy breed dog that both live in the house.
And these weren't strays they just adopted out of pity...no, they intentionally went to the rescue clinic and bought two cats! Dad claimed they are tired of moles tearing up the yard and in desperation he decided to get cats to hopefully be good mousers and terrorize the moles. He does insist they live outside and they are not permitted in the house under any circumstances, so he's not gone totally soft, but I'm still amazed.
Check out how cute they are! They are two brothers of the same litter and both just sweet as can be.
The buff colored one is named George. He has a very strong personality and is more aggressive and energetic than the other one. He seems to hold a lot of promise for hunting moles.
The beautiful orange and white one is named Tom. He has a very mellow personality and is more content to snuggle on your lap than anything. However, his brother constantly challenges him to duels, so he might toughen up a little and earn his keep as well.
They're still young and kitten like, but are nearly grown up now. They're both extremely friendly and love to follow you everywhere you when you're outside...almost dog-like!
