in cats •  7 years ago

Helmi brought a dead mouse into the house, carried it to the kitchen and started playing with it. After a while we took it away.

Hi markku. I think all cats play like that. Last week our cat was doing the same with a dead mouse it caught. it's amazing how they flick it around.

Good job Helmi!

Or did she bring it to you? I've had cats as long as I can remember. Always at least one, now three. Maybe Helmi has brought you food just like you bring food for her? Or she's showing of her hunting skills.

When I was a teenager our family had a cat that brought dead mice, birds and every kind of little prey next to his food bowl and started staring at my mom (the food provider) and meowing to her. Either asking something in return, better food, or telling her to eat the gift that he (the cat) brought.

She brought the mouse to her bowl in the kitchen. Then she started playing with it on the floor.

Ha! She's teaching you how to play and hunt. :)

It's all fun and games until your cat brings an actual rat to you

JAJAJA gave me a lot of laughter, the cat playing with her prey. the animal instinct is like that. I remembered a comict Tom & Jerry

cats can sometimes be such a jerk, that of playing with her food never seemed cute.

Now you're applying human standards to an animal. There is a function to cats playing with their prey. That is mostly likely minimizing the risk of counterattack during the kill. Cats kill their small animal prey by biting the neck. That puts a cats eyes close to the prey. It makes sense to make the prey too fazed and tired to fight back.

it makes sense I suppose, but It isn't strange that we can't put ourselves on the levels of nature, sometimes it seems cruel but this is the survival of the strong I guess.

Sounds like you were given a gift :)
