Cannabis has been used through ought the world for thousands of years, by millions of people for pain management. Many peer-reviewed studies have confirmed the many therapeutic benefits of CBD, especially in chronic pain management.
CBD relieves people from physical health issues through the way it binds to little receptors found in our bodies that are part of our endocannabinoid system ( ECS). These receptors are simple proteins that are found extensively throughout our bodies in our immune system, nervous system and brain. These receptors or proteins receive chemical signals from other stimuli and help the cells respond. Once the CBD is delivered to your body and absorbed into the bloodstream it then activates these receptors, bringing your body back into balance and giving it a vital boost in activity.
Studies on CBD for pain management have been conducted since the 1980’s and a fairly recent review of the many studies shows much promise for CBD and pain management, such as for chronic back pain, joint pain, and arthritis. Based on these studies, researchers concluded that CBD is effective for overall pain management without the many potential side effects related to other pain medications, such as opioid-based medicines. It was also noted CBD was beneficial in minimizing the side effects of pain, for example, insomnia.
A 2016 study was conducted on rats and a CBD gel was applied to rats with arthritis. After only 4 days researchers noted a reduction in the inflammation on the rat’s joints. The anti-inflammatory and pain relieving effects of CBD hold much promise for people who have Arthritis and associated pains.
Overall researchers cannot yet conclude the benefits of CBD for pain management. The FDA has not yet approved all CBD products but has approved some and believes much more research needs to be done in the development of CBD and its potential “toxic effects” and risk. It is generally considered through studies to not have any adverse effects if accidentally “overdosing” or known to cause withdrawal. If one were to take more CBD than required you may feel tired, have dry mouth, or feel sudden hunger.
CBD is also being fast used by athletic men and women for its ability to improve their performance on the field and reduce recovery times after working out. This is also due to CBD’s many therapeutic benefits, especially when dealing with muscle recovery and pain management. In 2014, Nate Jackson of the NFL already advocated the positive results of his and his teammate’s use of cannabis for their performance. CBD use amongst the sporting fraternity has boomed since then.
“For some people, pain management is a necessary occurrence, and opioids are passed out for every injury. I think marijuana is a healthier alternative.” Nate Jackson
Regardless of the slow progress of federal law and the FDA to support the development of CBD, overwhelming public support and demand have essentially proven for millions that CBD works. It is also important to note that CBD derived from hemp is now legal to own and sell in all 50 states in the U.S. CBD products with more than .3 percent THC are only legal where products with THC are legal to possess.
CBD is one of the few viable alternatives available for pain management. Because there is no real risk for any adverse side effects, and it is now becoming legal across the United States, cannabis looks to be a promising medicine of the future.
