CDC is standing by its new guidance that people can exit isolation after 5 days if asymptomatic. No test out provision unfortunately. If you do decide to test at day 5 and are positive you will need to do the normal 10 day isolation. Likewise if you are still symptomatic.
Though if you exit isolation as an asymptomatic you are to mask for 5 days.
At least they finally provided their rationale and the data they were relying on. UK data suggests only ~25-30% of people comply with 10 day isolation. According to pre-Omicron modeling cited from the UK, under a 5 day isolation an estimated 31% of people remain infectious.
So if you do leave isolation without a negative test, please wear a mask and limit your contacts. You still may be potentially infectious.
I wish they did a 7 day isolation instead. Under a 7 day isolation only an estimated 16% of people remain infectious. With a test out provision that reduces down to 9%.
