Sinulog Festival - CEBU

in cebuanos •  7 years ago  (edited)

The word Sinulog comes from the Cebuano adverb sulog which roughly means "like water current movement;" it describes the forward-backward movement of the Sinulog dance. The dance consists of two steps forward and one step backward, done to the sound of drums. Sinulog is the ritual prayer-dance honoring Senior Santo Niño or the child Jesus. Cebuanos celebrated the tradition in every third sunday of the month of January.

This picture was taken 3 years ago, I was the one chosen to dance Senior Santo Niño as Reyna or Queen. It is not easy to dance in front of many people but I choose to thank him and be proud by showing the ritual prayer-dance of Sinulog. It is a great opportunity to represent our City to all Roman-Catholics who is also devoted to Senior Santo Niño.
