The Chinese Wall

Sure you have heard about the Great Wall of China, but do you really know anything about its history? The only thing we know from its description is that it is huge and that it is located in China. However, a construction of that size has to have much more to tell us, so now we will see the reason for the construction of this huge wall.

How could we have imagined, the Great Wall is too big for its construction to take a short time. And not only was it built in parts but its construction extended in time between the 7th and 8th centuries BC. At that time, battles were common, and different states built walls to defend themselves. The first to contribute to this huge construction was the Chu state.

In those times there were different kingdoms, but the Qin Dynasty was the one who unified them into a single empire. Even so they had to defend themselves from the invaders of the north and for that reason the emperor ordered to unite all the walls in one, giving life to the Great Wall.

The Wall has changed over the years, because certain parts have been rebuilt, modified and extended. Even so, most of what we see today was built during the Ming Dynasty from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century. Currently, the Great Wall of China measures 6 thousand km approximately.

Although the Wall was made to defend the Chinese from the Mongols, this did not prevent them from being finally conquered. In addition, this is not the only wall that was created, but other empires also did, but none reaches the magnitude of China.

The name Great Wall is used mostly by Westerners, since the Chinese know their own wall as a Wall of Ten Thousand Li. The Li is a unit of measurement that is equivalent to half a kilometer, approximately.

The Ming dynasty not only made the walls stronger but positioned guard towers along it to maintain security. At present, the Wall suffers a great deterioration by tourists who do not stop taking pieces of it as a souvenir. In addition, cars and tourist shops have been put around. In any case, the Chinese authorities have already thought of the best ways to restore it and keep it going.

There should be no walls that separate men from each other, we should all be united. There are no walls or boundaries for the Lord and no leaf falls from his tree if it is not by God's work, we must remember that the man who has God for his possession, has everything that is necessary to have.

Romans 8:28
Now we know that God disposes all things for the good of those who love him, that is, of those whom he has called according to his purpose.
