I need a new SIM?

Wondering why I need a new SIM card for my unlocked phone I'm bringing to my current carrier? I should think that I can simply swap the SIM from my current phone to the new one and continue on without interruption!

    Simplest reason is size. Sometimes they are different sizes. Another reason is that an older one may not be capable of commissioning for certain newer services. Third, many reps follow a script.

    That’s all I could think of for the moment.

    Thanks for the info. I use AT&T prepaid and you seem to be able to buy a generic SIM card just about anywhere.
