The movie is based on a true story that happened in Los Angeles in 1926. Christine Collins (Angelina Jolie) works at a radio station. One day in March 1928, single-mother Collins returned home after work and found her 9-year-old son,
Walter, missing. Since Collins works on the radio, his son's disappearance and the Los Angeles Police Department's incompetence have been exposed.
In order to regain their reputation, the LADP informed Collins a few months later that Walter had been found alive. But the trouble is when Collins says the boy he got back is not his because this boy is 3 inches shorter than Walter and doesn't match Walter's dental report !!
