All proceeds from this post will go to support Ask Me Why I'm Here (AMWIH).
I did it. Now entering the third week of this charity drive I've decided upon my arbitrary goal. I'd like us to be able to read $500 SBD. I've been seeing higher returns on my blog in the last week, so I think this is a reasonable expectation. Of course, I always hope for a higher rate of return than usual on these charity posts, but we'll see what happens.
I chose to do this charity as a multi-week drive because the results of my first attempt were embarrasingly low and I didn't want to give an insulting 37 cent donation.
How it Works
All you have to do is this...
I will hold back all funds in my wallet until we reach my goal of $500. At that point, I will trade my SBD for Bitcoin on Poloniex and then sell the BTC for Canadian Dollars which will then be transferred to AMWIH.
If anyone is concerned that I will cut and run with the profits, remember that all financial information on Steemit is public. If you have any concerns, I would encourage you to stay vigilant, watch my account and publicly shame me if I behave dishonestly.
After the goal has been reached and my charity drive is over, I will make a follow-up post to prove that all funds have been transferred to the right place.
Financial Report
The first number is the total earnings of the post, and the second number is the author's earning after the curation rewards have been subtracted.
- WEEK 1 - 48 cents (37 cents)
- WEEK 2 - $29.07 ($21.88)
- WEEK 3 - ...TBD
- TOTAL - $22.36
What is Ask Me Why I'm Here?
As stated on the group's Facebook page, they are a social movement based on altruism. The focus of the charity is to connect people who want to make a positive difference, while actually making a measurable difference by providing basic necessities and emotional support for those in need. There are no questions, no forms to fill out, no judgement, just love.
AMWIH holds events in Oshawa every Sunday. Here is a video from their Life Rally which took place on August 28th.
This video does a better job at showing what they do than I could ever describe.
Thank you so much for reading, watching and hopefully clicking the upvote button. Every little bit helps.
If you want to keep up with this charity and vote every week until we reach our goal, please follow me @sethlinson.

Upvoting again this week, I was taking the weekend off but am glad I checked today. I hope people step up this week.

Thanks for voting again. It seems like this week will not be a success at all... Where are the big voters when I'm trying to actually make a difference? This is way more valuable than anything else I post. I guess the community disagrees.

It's depressing to see bot-generated content make the front page every other day and then a charity post like this is DOA...

Please stop. The point of upvotes is to get better content on the site, not bring crap to the top for personal reasons. Also, Altruism is sacrificing oneself to the benefit of another, and there is nothing good or moral about it. Helping others is a good thing, but sacrificing yourself to do so is not.

Thanks for stopping by Ayn Rand. I'm not going to stop making charity posts simply because you don't believe it's "good content"

Anytime you need to plead for votes you are not using the platform, you are attempting to exploit it. Instead of putting up quality content to get votes, you are putting up a sob story and pleading others to give you money. Although when I first commented I didn't realise there was a section dedicated to it. Still, this is not content but begging for money, and I don't encourage begging.

Sorry that some of us are trying to use the platform for good. But I'm not sorry. And I completely disagree.
There is no sob story here (did you read my post?) and this is content. Just because the post comes with a call to action doesn't change the fact that it is content. The post brings awareness to a group and a cause and talks about good people trying to make a difference in the world. That's worthier content than any of my art or musings about anarchy.

Can We Raise X$? Upvote for Y? You don't even mention the name of the charity in the title. It's plain pandering. Part of creating quality content doesn't include asking for upvotes so that your content trends.

I can see we're not going to get anywhere with this discussion. I was just trying to do some good here. Have a nice life.
